Bottle from Mane Liquor. Nice dark brown pour with a very fluffy, off white head. Roasted malts and a little ash on the nose followed by a touch of pine and chocolate. Cocoa powder and roasted malts mingle throughout. Finish with pine and more of the roasted bitter notes. Quite flavoursome and very easy drinking. Good beer

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 stewac01 (62) - AUSTRALIA - JUL 29, 2011
Bordering on jet black with a billowy tan head. Little yeastie chunks floating around. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and burned caramel, with a fair resinous hop whack in there too. Flavour is dominated by the roasted malts, hops + hop bitterness are there but tend to pop the astringency out of the malt. Mouthfeel is thick and rich. Big beer, just slightly to roasty and bitter for its own good.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 donfardz64 (538) - Wellington, New Zealand, NEW ZEALAND - APR 13, 2010
Pours dark deep red brown with tan head. Nice hoppy aroma, citrus and peach with a light roast malt. Hops show up front in the flavour, citric bitterness followed with a dry cocoa roastyness. Finish is bitter, slight chocolate. Aggressive, roasty and hoppy. Almost like a black American brown ale.

Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is of light hops, some chocolate malts, and caramel. Hops come out a little more on the flavor but not as much as I was expecting them to. Some chocolate and molasses come out on the flavor as well. Slight bitter finish.

Pours a deep brown color with a ruby tint and a light brown head. Aroma is malty, caramel, roast, some chocolate, and very intense piny citrus hops. Flavor is roast, caramel, toast, and a very flavorful piny citrus hop finish. Really good dark hoppy beer.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 jonno (1454) - JAPAN - JUN 29, 2009
Another disappointing seasonal from Baird. Looked the business, very dark. Minimal malt/hop nose. A lot less hops than I was expecting. Very nuetral in this aspect for a supposed 80 IBUs. Quite malty, perhaps more balanced than expected for the style.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Capa (1627) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 29, 2009
Draught at the Fishmarket and Towers. Dark body with a beige head. The hops are prevalent throughout the aroma and flavor. Bitter, malty, light molasses sweetness, fruits, some floral, pine, and a touch of chocolate. Very enjoyable beer.

Had this on tap at Popeye’s in the middle of a beautiful sunny Saturday early evening (in the middle of rainy season). Had some intriguing flavour ideas i.e. roasted coconut, pepper, spice, coffee, hop bitterness...made me think of an IBA-styled brew. Kind of interesting beer, but I felt it was not really taking me anywhere. This was the 4th pint of the night so I should possibly reinvestigate...?
