Bottle. Pours a near-black dark brown with big tan head. Aroma of coffee and roasted malts. Flavor is of sweet chocolate and roasted malts. A little thin with a bitter finish. Not really my style.

Draught at Harajuku Taproom. Almost black - offwhite head. Burned, licorice, coffee, sweetness, light milkey, light hoppy, almost no aroma, light bitter finish.

This was great for the low ABV. I was expecting a guinness clone. What I got was a flavourful, big stout which I could have drunk all day. Lots of dark malty goodness. They done good here.

Draught at Baird Naka-Meguro Taproom. Almost black. Gently roasy coffee aroma. Dry and creamy, drinks like a Guinness but with way more substance and life. Ligh coffee flavour. Finishes with salty bitterness. A pleasant easy going stout.

Had not tried this in a couple years and had it on New Years Eve at the Nakameguro Taproom. Seriously underrated brew. Great example of the style, with its modest ABV, dryness, dark chocolate, dark fruits character and just a hint of baked cake. Moderate bitterness on the end and deceptively full bodied for the ABV. Solid depth and balance through out. Superb.

Bottle from the brewery.
Pitch black with a very tall, fine, tan head. Creamy roasted aroma with lots of chocolate, a touch of coffee, nuts, and a touch of sweetness. Quite dry flavor, but very creamy, well burnt, chocolate, more coffee, still a touch of sweetness, and more hops than usual for the style. Very well balanced. Dry, burnt, and sweet, but not too much of any. Dry, hoppy finish. Long-lasting bitterness coming from both. Very interesting and pleasant, characterful dry stout. I really like that tinge of chocolaty sweetness behind a generally dry flavor.

Poured a bubbly light brown head over a light black body. Smelled of dark chocolate and well roasted malts. Tasted again of the well roasted malts, charred brown bread and a bitter chocolate coming at the end. More fizzy than creamy on the palate, medium feel.

Bottle. Didn’t realize how rare this was before opening, so sorry for not sharing it. Tight, tan head. When you smell it, you’d swear it was a West Coast hoppy amber or IPA. Plenty of C hops and a hint of black patent malts. Flavor of orange and tangerine to go along with the burnt coffee and wet forest timber. The beer has a really natural taste to it, fresh. Like lime gummyworms. I’d love to try this on a nitro pour.

Bottle from Tanakaya. Yep, it’s a stout all right. Not oatmeal sweet. Not dry like Guinness. Very nicely done. Unlike a Yebisu "Stout", Baird’s really IS a stout. Quite bitter in the finish.
