This brew bursts with hop character while still achieving a sublime balance due to a firm, robust malt backbone. It is a cross between an English-style and American-style India Pale Ale that is full-bodied and refreshing all at once.

Bottle at Hashigo Zake. Pours a nice deep reddish orange, substantial off white head. Good nose, citric orange peel, substantial bready malt.
Flavour has the ol’ caramelly malt base with citrusy hop flavour dumped on top.
A very solid IPA, perhaps lacking some testicular fortitude.

Sammy (8095) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUN 7, 2009
Clean refreshing IPA at Moniale 2009. Grapefruit colour with a little white head. A good bitterness, though high IBU and aggressively carbonated. Moderate hop aroma. Overall, a good taste, melange of hops

omhper (18970) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - MAY 22, 2009
Draught at Baird Naka-Meguro Taproom. Cloudy reddish amber. Gooseberry aroma. Sweetish and fruity with caramelly malt. Restraiend hops bring out a vague dusty gooseberry flavour. The malt profile is pedestrian American style brewpub chain-like: clean and hard, in bad need of some serious hopping to cover it. Not my cup of tea.

On tap at 4 Hearts in Kofu. Amber body under nice creamy tan head. Nose is a balance of hoppy grasses, caramel and other sweet malts as well. Taste is a softening of many things into one, bitter citrus, biting greens, as well the malty side of chocolate sweets. Overall youre looking at bitter brew of course. The palate was heaven, very very soft and long lasting.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2011 Copper-orange color with a large off-white head. Too large, this time. Fragrant hop aroma, with decent caramel malt in the background but there as well. Citrus fruits are strong. Very hoppy flavor, with tons of hops for both bittering and aroma. Very bitter, and also very fragrant. Fruity, citrus, dark fruits, with pretty decent malt as well, and caramel and a touch of chocolate. Hoppy, citrusy finish, very dry and bitter, with a long lasting and resounding bitterness that just stays on the tongue. A very strong, well done IPA with tons of flavor. If anything, it could use a touch more malt complexity and richness.

Draught at The Aldgate, Tokyo- presented there only as Baird’s IPA. Hazy copper with virtually no head. Served a bit too cold to fully appreciate the citrussy aroma.Good grapefruity hop bitterness. Medium to full body. Pacific Coast IPA, for sure (but you would not guess that it is not from the US West Coast).
