COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
West Coast Wheat Wine is a huge beer in terms of alcohol strength. 60 percent of the fermentable extract is derived from malted wheat and this lends a quenching drinkability rare to beers of this strength. The hops are 100% American west coast types that are bold and citrusy in character. In the glass, Baird West Coast Wheat Wine is a deep copper-gold color and sports a very tight, creamy-white head. The nose is piquantly complex -? we detect notes of pears, plums, raisins and the ominous foreboding of alcohol. In the mouth, you will experience a panoply of sweetish honeyed-fruit flavors that are washed clean by a robust hop bitterness and a hot alcohol finish.

Bottle from the taproom in Yokohama, 9%, served in a snifter. I am not all that familiar with this style, it poured a rich copper gold with almost no head - it looks quite IPA like. The aroma is a malty fruitiness followed by a bready biscuit like character before finishing with some light citrusy hops & caramel. Smooth silky mouthfeel & very full bodied. The taste is a bit boozy with lots of fruity malty character that reminds me of english ales... too sweet with lots of caramelized fruit notes followed by bitter hops which give me citrus, pine & grapefruit. I liked the body & mouthfeel, the taste is quite solid but a bit on the sweet side for me. The booze is only noticeable in your stomach where you get some warming. Pretty interesting, a big boozy full bodied sipping beer for IPA lovers.

bomber into a tulip Slightly hazy orange amber color. White ringed collar. Persistent collar. Good ABV legs. Nose is sweet and sticky dark fruits, raisin, pear and strawberry jam. Lovely nose. Taste is pear, plumb, honey, and strawberry. Soft at first but builds quite nicely. Slick and sweet, though not as bold as US or European attempts but quite nice. ABV burn at the very end. Solid beer

Pours dark amber with a fading head. Nose shows bready malt, doughy notes, melanoiding malt, sweet candy, figs, sultanas. Lovely. Very similar flavours. Bready and toasty malt, soft spicy notes, resinous hops, sultanas, port. Very rich. Could use a bit more carbonation. Awesome stuff.

An interesting idea this. It poured with plenty of suspended particles and a slow trickle of carbonation. The particles were interesting but not off-putting. A golden colour with a temporary white head. Aromas of dried banana chips, some clove and white pepper, golden syrup and coconut. In the mouth it was rich and oily, sweet with golden syrup again. A lip smacking beer and flavours of orange and mandarin developing toward the finish along with peaches perhaps. I like the idea of a wheat wine, but my companions (noted beer enthusiasts) were a little less intrigued.

Tap at Harajuku taproom. Slightly cloudy, light amber colour, small white bubbly head. Aroma is booze, quite sweet, bit of fruit there too but mostly booze. Maybe marzipan. Lots of alcohol. Taste is sweet, boozy, some caramel maltiness, but mostly booze. Bitter finish with a bit of a booze burn. Some Belgian hints. Itís ok, but the taste is way too booze dominated. Not much there apart from it.

Bomber from Presario. Spot on wheat wine, tasty, fuller mouthfeel, lacey. Cloudy golden body.Fresh aromas. Very good drinkability, like a strong ale with its hops.

A gift from SJ. I havenít had a Barley wine in a while. I forget sometimes how great they are. This one doesnít dissapoint with its honey, citrus, dark fruit, caramel malt, wheat and hop complexity. I loved it.
