COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
While many breweries feature a "flagship" brand that carries the main load in terms of production and sales, we at Baird Brewing view our entire year-round lineup as our "flagship" brand. Consequently, we aim to represent as broad a swath of the ale beer world within our year-round lineup as possible. This means that up and down our entire portfolio, the beer enthusiast will see represented a significant variation in flavor, aroma, color, turbidity, gravity and alcohol strength. Wheat King Ale finds its place in this lineup as the new lead-off hitter (our Ichiro, if you will). It is low in gravity (1.0420) and alcohol strength (ABV approximately 4.2%) but big in flavor production and refreshment. It is an ale of great versatility, flourishing most, however, in the roles of apertif, session beer, and drink companion to fish, poultry and lightly but zestily seasoned food dishes. While enjoying a depth and dynamism that make it a satisfying year-round libation, Wheat King Ale likely will dazzle you most with its refreshing qualities in hot and sultry weather (e.g. summer in Japan!). Wheat King Ale will become the table-setter for the Baird Beer year-round lineup. We hope and trust that you will enjoy!

Bottle. Pours a honey amber color with medium fluffy white head. Nice lacing. A bit of hops and wheat in the aroma. A bit heavier than I usually expect from a wheat ale, but crisp and a bit acidic. Not bad, definitely different.

Draught at Qbrick, Osaka. Cloudy golden - white head. Wheaty, sweetness, freshness, banana, orange, light cardboard, citrus, light hoppy, light bitterness, light yeasty.

On tap at Naka-Meguro Taproom, Tokyo. Glowing orange, decent head. Faint fruity aroma. Rather weak banana flavours, some spices. Dry. Light body. Disappointing.

Typical hazy yellow body and average white head. Nose was hoppy and had a bit more fruit and citrus than the average. Light apples on the tounge as well as some yeast and almost cinnamon. Palat was quite bubbily with a medium fill.

UPDATED: MAY 3, 2012 Bottle from the brewery. Light copper color with a good sized head. Pretty clear. Aroma of wheat malt, barley malt and hops. Very hoppy for a wheat—cascade included. Wheat aroma is rather thin. Closer to a bitter or pale ale. Fruity with lots of citrus. Strong hop flavor as well. Wheat character is noticeable, but not very strong. Malt character is very light overall. Hops predominate. Pleasant and decently balanced, but I would prefer a stronger wheat character. Rather clean finish with fruit and hops. Good, though not enough wheat.

Bottled. Cloudy dark yellow, minimal head. Neutral aroma. Sweet and fruity, medium bodied with soft mouthfeel. Quite neutral with chewy crystal wheat xharacter but no esters. Well made, but a bit pointless.

Bottle. Hazy pale orange in color with no head. Malty hoppy fruity aroma. Banana and clove notes. Spicy malty flavor. Citrusy notes. Medium bodied. Finish is fruity. Drinkable.

Bottle, thanks to eyedrinkale for sharing. Dark yellowish pour, some white film. Aroma is some german malt, spiced banana and light citrus. All on the weak side though, and the flavor is the same, but maybe a little past its prime.

Nice mention of Ichiro in the description but the flavor is as low as his RBI production. The wheat is as close to corn thais palatable. This isnt a bad beer by any means. As I drink it more, I get some honey.

Bottle shared by EDA. Aroma is skunked, some mint, licorice. Gets nicer as it warms. Light hops in the flavor, mild wheatiness, more skunk. Pretty unexciting, with very unenthusiastic flavors. Doesn’t do it for me.
