COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed under the Authority of Cerveceria Monterrey S.A. by Cerveceria Centro Americano, Guatemala City, Guatemala. Consistently preferred when blind taste tested against the best selling Mexican imports. Powerful shelf presence with impactful “Brand” packaging developed to compete with national brand beers. # Baja brewed from a 100 year old formula.

UPDATED: JAN 29, 2007 This obviously a Corona knock-off, at least as it is sold in the US. But it is very bad, even compared to Corona, which I hate. They’re both yellow and taste bad, but not all that similar. It was $9.99/24 for a reason. The aroma is like a skunk near a corn field. The flavor is mildly corny and yeasty, with a bit of sweetness. It finishes like something you wouldn’t want to have in your mouth, let alone swallow. As much as I like the low cost of some beers, and trying new brews from far off places, Baja is horrible. I hope Guatemalans get some sort of good beer too, and this isn’t their national standard. This just may be the worst alcoholic beverage I’ve tasted since I tried the 5-Star Banquet Beer from China when it was $1.99 a six pack. At least the 5-Star was interesting. Baja "Cerveza Importada" is just yellow and would probably taste the same coming back up, if you could swallow enough of it to get drunk.

Woohoo rating #7...Well the bottle looks cool and it seems to be a Cerveza to enjoy in the blazing sun but...the aroma has notes of vegetables (corn mostly) and slightly industry cleaner. Some grassy hops and bready malt as well on the nose. The taste is mostly sweet bread with some grassy and astrengent notes on the finish. A funky acidic quality makes a kick hit and is unpleasant. This is not refreshing or good, but then it is cheap. A beer that could use a lime or lemon wedge.

Ok spotted at el cheapo canned goods outlet..$2.99 a sixer..bought just a single. Clear screen printed bottle. Actually not the worst Latin American beer I have ever seen, its darker yellow than many with a bubbly white head. The aroma however is wretched, burnt plastic and fermeted grass. taste is just as wretched..watery with some yukky astringent tastes. Not good on the palate. A very bad beer..never again.

A sweeter, cornier version of a Corona that isn’t quite as mild. Didn’t try it with a lemon or lime, but that might be the ticket to dull sweetness a little as it is a bit overdone as well as help transition and maybe bury the aftertaste which is kind of harsh and

Pours a golden yellow with a white head. This is basically corona in every way even down to the similar bottle. Corny cheap taste with nothing really redeaming.

Proof that every milestone odesn’t have to have a memorable beer. Except this is my first Guatemala beer - I’m gittin’ my Guat on! Sorry. Anyway, this one poured a neon yellow with an acceptable sized white head. Decent aroma (nicely skunk-free) of corn, lemon and bread. Acceptable malty flavor and rather smooth, with the only drawback being an unpleasent sour, astringent finish. Better than expected.

Baja is now available in Indiana. It’s billed as Corona-on-a-budget. I taste tested it against Corona today. The only difference: Baja had a stronger aftertaste, maybe even a bit of alcohol. I think it’s better than Corona.

Corona lovers rejoice. Now you can get the same thing for 1/2 price. This beer’s packaging not only mimics Corona (Blue/White/Yellow logo, silk screened bottle, clear long neck bottle) but it tastes just like it too. It is a pale nasty yelllow looking beer. It smells kind of like dirty water. Taste is also of dirty alcohol. This tastes just like Corona from what I remember. The only difference is this thing actually poured a head but it was thin and soapy looking. Didn’t last more than a few seconds though. If you like Corona pick this up and save some cash.
