3.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
One of the better Bakalar offerings. Amber beer, medium bodied. Sweet notes, low hops, slight bitterness. Not the greatest dark lager, but it’ll do.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Euro Market, Queens 500ml ($2): Pours a muddy amber with a little off-white head. Aroma is mild at best with a little bit of fruitiness. Taste is watered down doppelbock. Almost like an American Dark Lager in taste. However, it is actually remarkably smooth and well-balanced in its own weird way. An interesting take on the doppelbock.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
UPDATED: JUL 31, 2015 Tasted large bottle from Global Foods in Kirkwood, Missouri, USA into standard pint glass. Poured a clear, dark copper color with weak beige head, faded quickly, no lace. Aromas of rich syrup, some roasted barley. Toasty, roasty, but too sticky-sweet flavor. Very low hops bitterness. Somewhat fruitier than you’d expect from lager yeast, but maybe it’s a sign of malt complexity. Thin body and mouthfeel. Perhaps they used simple sugar to increase the alcohol, which would explain the phenols as well. Technically, Doppelbocks should have 7-10% ABV, this one says 7.5%. A decent, drinkable dark Euro lager, struck me as a watered-down Doppelbock. Fun bottle design, at least.
