UPDATED: AUG 3, 2009 2009-07-05, Birra Demi Sec, best before Oct 2008, probably brewed in 2007 (L407), 2 years old, 7-5-6-2-12=32 Hazy golden color; too much carbonation, huge head; turbolent perlage. The aroma recalls the Belgian Ales, with some yeast spiciness, light fruitness, sugars, but also a light sign of bad fermentation or infection, but indeed the beer is well past its freshness... Dry mouthfeel as promised, the body is not too strong, and the alcohol is evident, probably all this due to the extra maturation/fermentation; dry malt flavor, possibly a bit acidic, very light traces of unwanted fermentation; the final is very dry. I can’t find any interest in this beer.
2006-12-02, 10% ABV, 7-4-7-3-14=35 Hazy copper color; creamy head. Malty aroma with a light fruitness. Medium body, low malt taste, wrong yeast choice (it doesn’t add much), candi sugar, and boring hop, still light malt fruitness. Good without thrills.
2004-12-11, 8% ABV, 6-4-7-3-14=34, Two different versions, brought by Laurent Mousson Orange/copper color; giant head. Too high carbonation. Good Belgian Strong Ale, dry in the front, but showing some sweetness after. Very good, but still experimental.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Hildigöltur (5107) - København, DENMARK - DEC 15, 2004
The bottle said 10%ABV. Fruity and slightly yeasty aroma. Soft and smooth fruitiness in the flavour with some pleasant alcohol notes.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Bov (7335) - Bienne, SWITZERLAND - DEC 13, 2004
notes are for the final experimental batch - brewed using whisky yeast (Johnny Walker); hazy red-amber colour, giant creamy head, yeast, caramel and red fruits, very high carbonation, effervescent, very bitter and dry, very astringent, long fruity and strongly alcoholic finish - thanks to Laurent Mousson for sharing this one
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 DarkElf (2961) - La Jolla, California, USA - NOV 22, 2004
(Bottle: Italian beer tasting, O’Brien’s in San Diego, CA) Easily the best beer of this Italian beer tasting, this is a strong ale in the Belgian tradition, bordering on a tripel. Aromas of bubblegum, Belgian yeast, banana. Clove, banana, yeast flavors, moderately sweet with a bit of hoppiness in the finish. The alcohol is very evident in the back of the throat. Well carbonated, but it gets a bit thin and watery in the finish. Cloudy, light amber, dark gold color, but the lighting isn’t ideal in this bar. Off-white head has good size on the pour and quickly settles to a thin layer, but retains that layer quite well.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JorisPPattyn (6724) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - MAR 14, 2004
UPDATED: MAR 7, 2005 8% ABV version Gushing to huge, very dense head, cream-colored head; darker amber. Aroma hops, and a bit of caramel malts in the nose, also a coriander smell. Taste with liquorice, very sweet (huge amount of restsugars), diacetyl and citrus. Retronasal hops. Quite sticky mouthfeel, very thick, full-bodied. A very sweet tripel. Brigand in the Italian way?
<P> Re-rate second 10% version with J.Walker whisky yeast Fully hasy, peach & olive coloured; off-white slim head and some alcohol. Caramel, vegetable, almonds, ambrée malts, very typical. Where is that special yeast? Slick, velvety MF. ’Scusato, Lorenzo, but maybe Le Baladin likes a tad too much experimenting and tinkering, instead of stabilising; oh, well, I’m never satisfied.
