From notes: Pours a hazy, dark golden amber/orange color with a thin white head that immediately disappears. Not much in the way of lacing. Slightly spicy, peppery aroma with hints of candy sugar and crisp light fruit, notably cherry, strawberry and apple. Medium bodied, slightly earthy and spicy with hints of cherry, strawberry, grape and apple as well as some candy sugar and phenolic alcohol. The spice presence is a bit too heavy for my liking with prominent pepper, cinnamon and peppermint. I’m also picking up some faint hops. I’m a big fan of Baladin but I wasn’t really into this one. It’s not bad but the alcohol presence is a bit too strong and there is an overpowering spice character that takes away from the flavor, mouthfeel and drinkability.

Cloudy orange brown beer. Soft and semi dry palate. Sweetish beer. Some marmaldey sweet orange followed by a little brandy alcohol dry sweetness. Crisp dry finish. Very drinkable and a good take on the Belgian style.

Bel colore ambrato leggermente torbo, con schiuma fine e persistente. Alle narici spiccano nell’ordine malto, frutta, spezie(leggere) e componente alcolica. In bocca la nostra è davvero una Belgian Strong Ale, ha tutte le sue caratteristiche, corpo importante, dolciastra ma non troppo, potenza alcolica che si distingue e finale per niente amaro. Ottima in questa serata umidiccia...

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2011 Birra unica, particolarissima e assolutamente spiazzante. Immaginate una Bommen&Granaten con meno corpo, meno alcool ma più carbonata. Il paragone con un barleywine non tragga in inganno, si tratta di una belgian ale (molto, molto strong!) a tutti gli effetti, ma "un po’ puttana", come la definisce Teo. A metà tra birra e champagne (le bollicine si sentono), ma dolcissima, un vero e proprio nettare, un elisir. Colore ambrato intensissimo, schiuma prorompente ma assai poco persistente. Aroma intensissimo, da orgasmo puro. In bocca dolce, intensa, senza alcun retrogusto amaro, ma assolutamente ben bilanciata. Provate ad assaggiarla in compagnia di un cioccolato fondente e ne percepirete venature acidule e anche lievemente amarognole. Secca, asciutta e rinfrescante, sufficientemente beverina. E’ birra da meditazione, ma anche da pasto, abbinabile praticamente con tutto. Assaggiatela senza pregiudizi: vi stupirà!

Una belga sui generis, molto frizzante, bevibile a dispetto della gradazione alcolica elevate. Ottimo l’equilibrio dolce-amaro, con una punta acidula, note di frutta, banana, mirtilli e pesche. Aprirla con cautela, a me il tappo stava per finire in un occhio.

In bottiglia da 75 comprata da Squillari; tantissima schiuma, bel colore ramato, notevole complessità e un alcool che si sente molto ma non è troppo invadente. Accompagnata con fromage Baladin e composta di peperoni, il tutto squisito.

Sampled from a bottle at Mondial de la bière. Hazy copper-orange with no head. The aroma is quite strong, with fruit, yeast, and booze. There is lotsa booze in the flavour as well, with Belgian elements underneath (yeast and spice), and a little citrus. Similar to Blonde d’Achouffe.

Orange-spice aroma. Deep amber color with a nice white head. Cherry and honey with a slightly spiced yeast finish. Great beer, reminds me of Troeggs Mad Elf.
