COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A demi-sec ale brewed with whiskey yeasts, from the island of Islay, creating striking dryness and lively effervescence. The nose showcases almond and tropical fruits. The palate is malty, with flavors of plum, dried apricot, and spice. It’s finish is dry and warming from the high alcohol. Rare on tap!

A Mes rate: Bottle at GBBF.
A gorgeous clean amber colour with an impressive thick and stable white head. Massive pineapple in the aroma (and I love pineapple) along with some almond like alcohol and some lovely tropical fruit hops that could almost be Sauvin. The flavour is along the same lines but it held back by some all too apparent burnt malt. Biiiiiig fruity finish with lots of sugar brings it back on track. I like this,

A golden amber ale with a thick light moka head. A herbal malt aroma with some light funk. In mouth, a nice maderized malt aroma with light hops, lighter bodied than expected, oily mouthfeel. Bottle at Mondial 2010.

Al-iksir. Slightly hazy amber-orange pour. No head. The nose is quite intense. A candyish sweetness and a fairly heavy spicy nose. Lots of heavy cinnamon, nutmeg and sweet date honey. Plummy and a little bit floral on the back. Rich and spicy along with a bit of toastiness. Sweet and a bit chewy although it isn’t cloying. Lots of honey and spice and perhaps a bit of wheatiness as well. Orange peel and a little bit of cherry. Really quite interesting and a great holiday beer. It tastes like winter.

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2005 8% ABV version Gushing to huge, very dense head, cream-colored head; darker amber. Aroma hops, and a bit of caramel malts in the nose, also a coriander smell. Taste with liquorice, very sweet (huge amount of restsugars), diacetyl and citrus. Retronasal hops. Quite sticky mouthfeel, very thick, full-bodied. A very sweet tripel. Brigand in the Italian way? <P> Re-rate second 10% version with J.Walker whisky yeast Fully hasy, peach & olive coloured; off-white slim head and some alcohol. Caramel, vegetable, almonds, ambrée malts, very typical. Where is that special yeast? Slick, velvety MF. ’Scusato, Lorenzo, but maybe Le Baladin likes a tad too much experimenting and tinkering, instead of stabilising; oh, well, I’m never satisfied.

Bottled - GBBF 2008. A very murky light brown coloured beer. The aroma has spritzy yeastiness and some light fruits and decent Belgian styled hoppiness. The taste is yeasty with peppery hops. Highly carbonated and very obviously Belgian in influence.

Any first impressions?
-A ring of big bubbles circles the cloudy orange-bronze.
-Doughy yeast and milky coriander shield the peachy fruitiness and flower petals.
-Curaçao zest and peach juice are meagerly dispersed onto the biscuity maltiness.
-Ambitious bubbling mostly showcases the lean maltiness.

What if you dig deeper?
-Alcohol is well-hidden for its size.
-Maltiness is sadly distant, especially for such a big brew.
-White sugar/cake icing develops in the aroma.
-A shrug of the shoulders is all that happened for me while having this drinkable Belgian-style strong ale.

Bottle; 072007.

Cloudy orange brown beer. Soft and semi dry palate. Sweetish beer. Some marmaldey sweet orange followed by a little brandy alcohol dry sweetness. Crisp dry finish. Very drinkable and a good take on the Belgian style.
