Panama City Beach Fl - Chan’s Wine World (brought back by my wife) - 750 ml capped bottle - labeled as ’al-iksir’. Dark copper pour, slight murkiness to it - thin off-white head. Aroma is sweet an syrupy with some molasses notes, some raisins and some maple syrup. Flavor is somewhat akin to the aroma with some fruity accents reminiscent of apricots, soem candi sugar notes, a hint of bubble gum, and a bit of mead-like honey notes. Mouthfeel is warm and silky. Solid.

Chef Pauls- 5 oz sampler. Copper red, no head. Aroma is tart cherry. Very "warm" mouthfeel- smooth and sugary. Brown sugar and apricot, hot booze. Body flattens out quickly, also turns slightly metallic in the finish. Too sweet.

Tap at Bavarian Lodge. Beer is listed as Baladin Al-Iksir on the menu. Dark golden pour. Head fades to nothing after several minutes. Aroma of white grape juice and herbal tea. Yeasty, spicy goodness in the glass. I’m thinking Sahti as I write this. It’s sweet and spicy like a sugared spice drop candy. There a flavors of bubblegum and find clove. The 10% ABV IS well hidden. There is no indication that this beer will be so flavorful. It’s delicious. Mid palate is weak but it’s an overall winner.

Draft at the Birch, as "Al Iskir" ... Red more than golden, with a nice sudsy, pillowy head. The aroma is reminiscent of cream. This drinks with a nice little alcohol burn, but not too much. Caramel, sugar, and maybe a little bit of raisin here, too? Delish. (#4462, 2/4/2012)

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 jeivs (3) - Bologna, ITALY - JAN 10, 2012 does not count
