BlackDonald (724), On a beer trip all over the USA, California, USA May 11, 2008 This was quite nice. Starts off with some woody notes, and a lot of deep dark fruit flavors, hints of caramel and chocolate, and ever present toffee sweetness, but the nose is what makes this beer, like a bit of of banana split mixed with coffee cake.
nhorween (488), New York, New York, USA Jul 3, 2008 Bottle. Deep garnet red color with a fine off white head. Belgian yeast, caramel malt, and mint in the aroma. Vanilla notes and toasty. Some cocoa in there in the distance. Taste is less enjoyable, but it’s quite drinkable for 9%. Metallic right before the finish, which is a little flat. Overall, not bad, but I’m still underwhelmed by the Italian beers that I’ve had. puzzl (1651), New York, New York, USA May 29, 2008 1.5L, 2005 magnum on company money at Ginger Man. How sweet is that? I convinced other people to pay $50 for this! hahaha, suckers.
On to the beer, this was surprisingly sweet, very mellow, lots of sucrose, vanilla, cake. A bit boozy, this definitely got the crowd drunk. Overall pretty enjoyable, if not a little too mellow considering its ABV. larsga (2113), Oslo, Norway Apr 17, 2008 Big beige brownish head shrinks slowly leaving coarse lacing on the glass. Deep dark red body with suspended yeast particles. Fruity peppery caramel aroma with alcohol and licorice notes. Sweet earthy peppery licorice taste with soapy notes as well as wild berries. Some alcohol heat. Hides the alcohol well, though. Nice, but lacking in punch. (0.75l bottle from Isola della Birra.) rlgk (2944), Motala, Sweden Mar 2, 2008 (Bottle, thanks to rickgordon) Hazy amber color, offwhite head. Malty aroma, fruity, spicy and with some grassy notes. Malty, fruity flavor, marcipan, some alcohol showing.
