UPDATED: JUN 3, 2009 2005 bottle, aged nearly 4 years. Pours a hazy golden-amber color with a spongy, pure white head. The foam settles slowly to a pretty, pronounced ring, but leaves little to no lacing behind. Upon the first waft of the tart, musty, spicy aroma, I can tell Iím really going to enjoy this beer. Notes of white pepper, bold new oak, fresh cedar, wildflower tea, and dried orange zest provide for a funky, feral spice profile, while notes of hay and candied pale malts add contrasting dryness and sweetness. Flavors arenít as well defined, but still provide excitement with notes of peppery cedar, candied orange peel, wet straw, chamomile, and floral hops. A tart, bretty, funky punch comes through, and is intensified by the mouthfeel. Tart, zesty, effervescent, and refreshing, the moderate body makes for a near perfect summertime palate, and not a hint of alcohol is detectable. Thereís a little bit of Fantome Dark White and maybe some Hitachino Classic in this brew, both of which are a very good thing. This is a nice beer. Right up my alley.

Sour Edition 2010:
Crisp golden coloured body with a bright copper highlight and a thin one centimetre tall just off-white head. Millions of microscopic bubbles rise from the bottom, but you really have to look to see them. Aroma of sour grapes, oak, vanilla, cognac, yeast, bread, citrus and a bit of light cherries - nice and complex throughout the smell. Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence with a very mild light grape and tart gueuze like flavour, showing some grass, hay and a little oak. Aftertaste has a bit more complexity with some of the fruit-based sugars coming out, a little milk flavour and the subdued tartness and oak dryness shining at the end and making the mouth water for more. Overall, a very elegant, subdued yet potent sour with more of the hints of a wild or even a lambic noticeable. Very mild, but the flavours are very nice, iím definitely glad I picked this up! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased from Eataly in New York, New York on 12-July-2013 for US$16.80 sampled at home in Washington a day before leaving for the real Italy on 11-February-2014.

Tap @ The BeerMongers Sour Showcase... Poured pale, hazy yellow with a thin head. Awesome acidity hear with bright yeart and fruit notes. Candied sour apples with lemon note and candied sugars. Like a sour patch kid or something. Tart finish. Not too overbearing in any direction though.

Tap at Paradiso Georgetown. Low haze orange pour. No foam. Nose is fresh tangerine, light Acetic, white wine barrel. Taste is lemon drops, stickier candies, stale apple. Palate is a bit chalky and mealy. Not very bright or even very sour.

The aroma is tart fruit, belgian candi sugar, some toffee. The appearance is slightly hazy and translucent amber/ruby color, white head. The flavor is vert tart cherries, sour like vinegar, cereal grains, not as sweet as the aroma. The finish is vinegar, sour, pungent, light fruit. Medium in body, lots of carbonation. Nicely done sour, not too overpowering. Cool variation of a reproduced ancient ale.

Pours a slightly hazy deep golden color with a finger of foam that settles quickly. On the nose there is some touches of phenol reigned in by tight sour fruit and a bit of belgian candi sugar. On the palate it has a slightly sticky mouthfeel with a burst of initial sour acidity that quickly gets covered with a blanket of sweet candi, apple, pear and a subtle touch of toffee on the finish.

On tap at Stubbyís as Birrificio Baladin Nora Sour. Clear amber with a vanishing thin white head. Aroma is mildly sour with grassy notes, earthy hops, caramel and some sweet and spicy notes. Tastes is training wheels sour with tannins, spices, yeast and a spicy finish.

2008 edition on tap at Maxs in July 2012. Still, no head, faded carbonation...probably better four years ago. Subdued, rather one-dimensional. Some mild sour tones, but canít compare with a Belgian at all. Some odd herbal undertones, faint. Apple juice, not mindblowing for sure. Disappointing, but OK.

Draft at Maxís Taphouse. They were selling this as a special and I can see why. Pours golden with little head and leaves no lacing. Not a ton on the nose except a slight tartness. Itís a bit of green apple on the tongue. Slightly tart finish. Pretty boring.
