750 ml corked and waxed bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 6.8%. Hazy deep golden to amber cour, large white head. Very interesting spicy and exotic aroma, notes of incense, does indeed fulfill the brewer’s intentions of bringing some the smells of the Middle East. Also notes of yeast. Interesting flavour too, complex spicy notes, fairly refreshing. The spiciness is never sharp nor burning. Intentionally lightly hopped to bring the spicy notes up front, but a little more hops would not hurt. The finish is too perfumed and "soapy", and ruins much of the pleasure for me.

Fra flaske på Cardinal i møte med Teo Musso: brygget på Kamut, en egyptisk hvete og med bl.a. kvae fra egyptiske treslag. Inspirert ev midtøstens kryddermarkeder. Nydelig munnfylde men overraskende kort ettersmak.

Sampled from 0.75l bottle @ Beer Enthusiast release party . This one pours a heavy clouded glowing orange-honey colored beer with a small and sidesticking off-white head. Really special aroma in this one. Fantastic herbal and spicy, some banana sweetness, clementine zest, some faint traces of smoke all the way in the back and wheat with spices, spices, spices! Quite spicy on the aroma yes. Smooth-ish texture in the mouth with a average carbonation level. Taste is also quite out there on a long windy branch. A super spiced one? I get bananas, sweet caramel-ish honey, a little hint of warming alcohol, ripe fermented zest, green tea with a light warming aftertaste. Not something I could buy a full 0.75l bottle and enjoy alone, a bit to weird for that - but it was a good sampler. 23.04.2012

Bottle sample at Beer Enthusiast release tasting, Bergen. Opaque orange color with off-white head. Quite spicy aroma that reminds me of resin, wood, incense and sawdust. The taste is spicy in the direction of juniper, spiced tea, grape fruit and a peppery finish. For those who have tried cold tea in Egypt this is not far away, and feels soft in the mouth with a light bitterness. Truly a distinctive beer. The spices are well balanced throughout.

Cloudy orange beer. Softish palate, very slightly dry. Interesting! Some sour fruit and herby spice - maybe ginger and something else? Some wood character emerges from the depths in the mid. Finally mild spicy bubblegum and more fruit in the finish. Complex and a little unusual. Tasty.

Bottle sample @ Beer Enthusiast Release Tasting, Bergen. Slightly hazy straw/honey color with a small white retention. Nose is grainy malts, tiger balm (first time in a beer!), hints of honey, resin and herbs. Very original. :-) Taste is also quite nice: honey, cardamom, hints of wheat and some hard-to-define spices. Full body, smooth carbonation. Some ginger tones barely surface towards the aftertaste, giving off a nicely rounded finish. A smooth and pleasant spicy beer, which is definitely easy to associate with Egypt or the Middle East.

100ml, draught served at a fine drinking temperature at Open Baladin. Cloudy amber body, diminishing white tophead. Spiced malt-fruity aroma with a floral touch. Complex taste character including tea-like hops, herbs, lemon, honey and subdued malty sweetness. Resin-fruity ending. Oily palate. Mild on the swallow. Medium bodied, but easy to drink. Interesting (Roma, 31.03.2012).

Weak apricot and lemon nose. Cloudy amber, full of fine silt, no head. Apricot flavor with a surprising grassiness, lemongrass. Spritsy, alcohol not evident, light to medium body. Balanced and good, but not commensurate with the high price.

Looks like sparkling cider with a quickly fading fizzy head. Unusual herbal aroma -- maybe that’s the myrrh? Taste is a bit more peppery. Really unusual in a good way.
