This beer is based on an ancient Egyptian recipe. What makes this beer so interesting, is the fact it is brewed with kamut, a grain used by ancient Egyptian brewers. It is then spiced with ginger, myrrh, and orange peel. Hops were not used in ancient Egyptian brewing, so only a small amount is used to preserve this beer, but you will find no hop character. Nora pours to an opaque and hazy, deep golden, to light orange color, with a thick and creamy white head, and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose on this beer is very fragrant, with spicy aromas of fresh ginger and lemon. The palate on this beer is tart and "grainy" with good malt flavor, paired with a nice back drop orange/citrus flavor. The tart and citrus flavor of this beer makes it tangy, and very drinkable. Nora finishes with more good tart and grainy malt and citrus flavors, then ends with a touch of ginger spice, that leads back into a nice tangy citrus flavor that lingers. A very unique, flavorful, delicious, drinkable ale. This beer makes for a fantastic summer refresher, and a nice cold glass of this goes well on a hot and humid day. At 6.8% abv, Nora is the type of beer that is perfect as an aperitif, and would work well with a number of dishes. The brewery suggests that "Nora is perfect with oriental food like soya noodles, chop-suey and chicken with curry and rice. Nora is a fine accompaniment to fish and white spicy meats". Sounds right to me. Marketed in beautiful bowling pin like, 750ml brown bottles, Nora Ale retails for $7-$8 a bottle, in select US markets, and is well worth seeking out.

Hazy orange body, small white head. Fruity aroma, sour pineapple, alcohol. Tart-sour fruit in the flavour, pineapple, touch of grapefruit, underlying sweetness. Average palate. Pleasant but uninspiring.

Apple nose, also peach, cloudy apricot colour, tiny custard head. Flavour is mixed fruit, tart, mildly sweet, nicely done. Quite a refreshing treat! Kamut grain?

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry, tupalev, jerc, DougShoemaker & mds -- courtesy of R. Pours a murky dark yellow-orange with sediment and a spare white head. Mild aroma of sour fruit. Flavour of fruit, sweet malt, some mild sourness and spices. Nothing special but it’s decent enough.

Dark yellow, small white head. Some pepper, barnyard like yeast, and slightly acidic and sour aroma. Light mouthfeel. A nice lemon citrus taste, just slightly sour; well balanced with enough malt. Quite refreshing. A very fruity finish with no sign of the slightly increased alcohol. This is a well made interesting brew, thanks R!

Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy, tupalev, jerc, DougShoemaker and mds - thanks, R!. Poured cloudy orange with a small white head, plenty of sludge at the bottom of the glass. Aroma is quite peppery and sour, orange-lemon-pineapple juice, tart cider - gets even more sour on warming. Taste follows nose, juicier, quite tart and peppery. Mouthfeel acidic and lively - very interesting, very drinkable sharp lightly sour ale. Thanks "R!

This was a real nice beer, fully drinkable at 6.8 and refreshing. Had it on tap in a nice 2 liter "tube" with another. I’ll take any trad ale I can drink by the liter.

Interesting aroma, a light, sweet malt, yeasty, with a gingery, chamomile laden aroma having a slight citric tartness. An okay pour, hazy pale orange with plenty of suspended particles and a fizzy, cream colored head. The flavor is simpler than the smell, malt heavy with oranges and a swelling of the spices near the end. It’s got an abrupt finish, leaving only a bit of orange zest tartness in the mouth. I’d do it again.
