Bottle sampled on 7/2/06: Pours a cloudy copper bronze with thin-lacing white head. Aroma of lightly sweet biscuity caramel malt and a touch of light fruity tartness. Starts with a body that foams up in the mouth showing some fruity acidity and bittersweetness before a thin, tart and rather bland finish. Not a huge fan of this, and definitely not worth the price.

Another try to recreate beer from ancient Egypt. Still, it reminds me too much of a Belgian wheatbeer. As wheatmalt, orange peel and ginger are used, it is not surprising, but I find even tones of coriandre and allspice (not used). A bit of vegetable bitterness, then a lot of sweetness, developping an interesting fruity character. The myrrh? The thick white head is surprisingly stable.

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2008 The Lure:
Flowery bouquet of sweet citrus and Middle Eastern desserts. White pepper, rose water, oranges form a very fruity shampoo. Very interesting, but not assertive enough for me to fall in love.

The Festivities:
Fluffy Belgian-like carbonation stabs through the orange peels, white bread crumbs and cake dough. Perfumy, enticing, but again not confident enough compared to their Super Baladin.

Transcendence:
The market’s been closed for many hours, but the day’s fragrances still hover.

From the bottle and from the tap at Bir&Fud, Roma.

Oh, seems like I am rating this low compared to you lot! Anyhow, in my view, this has a poor aroma and a wit-like appearance. The mouthfeel is soapy and the flavours light and spicy. Alcohol is not noticable. A merely OK beer.

UPDATED: MAY 16, 2010 750ml bottle (One Pint Pub, Helsinki)
Clear rich gold, small ring head. Lovely citrussy aroma, tangerine and a little limey. Gently spiced retronasals, ginger mostly, but not dominant. Full sweet palate, but not sticky. Lovely gentle grains, and a really subtle ginger element that pervades every corner, but again doesn’t dominate. Finish has lovely fresh green hops and zingy tangerine zest. Occasionally a waft of alcohol, but not boozy ever, and that was quite rare.
Rerate of: (6:3:6:3:10=2.8) 750ml bottle (OPP, HBF2010) - shared with Miksu
6 Sweet estery aroma, but decent grainy maltiness
3 Hazy mid gold, tight head
6 Lots of fruity esters in the retronasals, and no shortage of grains
3 A bit too dry, some white pepper too
10 A little sickly.
Hmmm - this sounds like what Miksu had (we wrote our reviews completely independently), but this is very different from what we had in OPP later - was it a different beer?

Cloudy orange beer. Softish palate, very slightly dry. Interesting! Some sour fruit and herby spice - maybe ginger and something else? Some wood character emerges from the depths in the mid. Finally mild spicy bubblegum and more fruit in the finish. Complex and a little unusual. Tasty.

Bottle thanx to Joergen. Orange colour with a white head. Fruity, dishwash aroma and a sweet fruity, dishwash taste. Medium body with a sweet horable finish.

Pours gold and hazy with a white head. Smells breaddy with some fruitty elements. Tastes fruity with some nice spicy elements.

Bottle from Super Saver. Hazy dark brown pour with 2-finger off-white head. Aroma of floral spices, hopcitrus, some orange zest and tropical fruit. The flavor is floral and spicy, yeasty, with a lot of orange zest, some lemongrass, mango, coriander, and even clove hints. It gets very black and Bell peppery as it warms, while retaining a smooth, citrusy saisony feel to it.

Opaque cloudy orange-yellow color. Nice off-white head recedes to a ring. Big nose, very spicy. Original notes of lavender and spruce reminds of soap or deodorant. Woody and dry character, I wouldn’t mind drowning in that one. Nicely floral yeast aptly providing new developments in mouth where sage and aquatic plants juice bring up a whole new world of interesting flavours, but it’s globally less well integrated than the nose. Moderately carbonated, medium bodied. Impressive Italian beer!
