The masterpiece of the brewery. The beer that mostly encountered the favour among the customers at Le Baladin. Although one wouldn’t believe that, it’s the most alcoholic among all the productions. It originated from an old recipe created toward the end of the ’800 following the style of the belgian abbey beers. Intense aroma of warm flowers, apricot and banana and hints of bitter almond. Agreeable, refreshing and quenching taste of apricot in syrup, almond cake and citrus fruits. Excellent the use of belgian selected hop during the fermentation process. This beer matches perfectly with ripen cheeses, biscuits and almond sweets.

Bottle, 75cl, courtesy of KimJohansen. It pours a clear, golden body under a small, off-white head. Malty, fruity nose, a bit boring actually. Some tropical fruits in syrup. The flavor is sweet and fruity, tropical fruits mostly. Full-bodied and pleasantly carbonated. Sweet, fruity finish too. A bit one-dimensional, but quite tasteful anyhow. 100814

Bottled 750ml (BB 04/2010). Hazy amber color, steady small off-white head. Aroma has orange peels, peach, strawberries and yeast. Foamy mouthfeel. Quite sweet flavor. Strawberry juice, banana, Belgian yeast, spices. Spicey alcohol in the aftertaste. Not really exiting or complex, but overall quite nice Belgian strong ale for dessert.

Bottle, 8%. Slightly farty aroma. Hazy red colour. Quite malty flavour, getting sour at the end. The sourness seems intentional. Quite harmonious, once some of the CO2 has been shaken out. Getting some dried fruits in the finish.

Bottle. Fruity and floral aromas, along with a bit of caramel. Color is sort of apricot and the white head stayed awhile, though it did not lace. Full bodied with fizzy/creamy carbonation. Starts a little citric sour, some light stone fruits, touch of funk. The finish is dry, nigh astringent, with some citrus and a moderate amount of hop bitter. Leaves my mouth rather tingly. It just gets better as time proceeds.

When tasting this beer it reminded me of La Trappe Dubbel, but a little less ’thick’ and a little less sweet.

750ml bottle (Alus Celle, Riga)
Ugh, crappy floaty bits, and we’re only part of the way through the pour. Sweet mashy pale grains aroma, porridgy. Mart’s glass was less sticky and sweet but more weird. Taste was better, it was a quite light, but sugary, belgian ale. Ours was thick and sticky, mashy and sugary, and just a bit of a mess. As I go down he glass, the flaws fade, but everything fades, it beomes quite weak flavourwise. Brewed from sugar more thin malts, to be honest. Hmm, undecided about this.

Bottle. Poured hazy amber/orange color with a large frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate spicy fruity malty aroma. Light to medium body with a slick texture. Medium balanced flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable complex beer.
