08/03/2012 Open Baladin Roma (10cl tasting). Bellissimo color ambrato carico, con riflessi tra il miele e il rame, limpido, schiuma assente. Versato dalla bottiglia ha un caratteristico aspetto vinoso e forma numerosi archetti sulla superficie interna del bicchiere. Aroma intenso, fruttato, note ossidate, ricorda un vino fortificato dolce. In bocca è dolce, fruttato, zuccheroso, morbido. Corpo medio, consistenza vellutata, oleosa, liscia, alcol ben nascosto. Rispetto alla "sorella" Lune mi ha convinto meno, resta comunque un gran bel barley wine, delicato e morbido come pochi altri.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2012 500 ml corked and waxed bottle in cardboard cylinder, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 12.0%. Hazy very dark reddish brown colour, hardly any head, nor any carbonation in my bottle. I think there was somewhat more carbonation in the bottles opened at the Teo Musso / Cardinal tasting. Strong aroma of oak / red wine barrel and raisins, hints of fusel alcohols that are softened after a while in the glass. In the mouth the beer is completely flat / lifeless. Oaky flavour / dominant red wine barrel, medium sweet. Moderate hops. Will rerate if I get a new bottle with carbonation.

Fra flaske på Cardinal i møte med Teo Musso: 1års lagring på ulike rødvinsfat og tilegnet hans 30 vinproduserende venner. 20% svart ris (!). Ingen karbonering. Svisker, rosiner, sherry og mye mer i lange baner og med en ettersmak som varte over bybrua. Bærer sine 12% med den største eleganse.Blant det beste jeg noensinne har smakt!

Rating on the way home from the Baladin session at Cardinal. Fantastic aftertaste even 10 minutes after my last drink of this beer. I praise myself Lucky having ordered a case of this beer through a beer pal with a licence. I can’t believe this beer holds 12,5 %, it’s so light to drink. Clear mahogany with a tan colored rim of big bubbles, ir’s not the look of it that’s gonna win you over. It’s the aroma, the taste and the palate. Nose rich with prunes, sweets, malts, port, raisins, boozy and earthy notes. Sweet and fruity flavors - prunes and light notes of sweet liquorice present. Full bodied and juicy this beer is a long ride ripe with dried dark fruits, malts and light heather honey

This beer is less complex than Lune but it’s a great barley wine too. Perhaps a sweetness reduction could make it better.

Bottle 500ml.

Light unclear dark amber red colour with virtually no head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel,, erathy, red wine, grape, tobacco, cask wood, oak. Flavour is heavy sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long duration, iodine, caramel, wood, smoke - turf. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is flat, finish feel is light to moderate alcoholic. [20120324]

Bottled, thanks fiulijn! Pours viscous hazy copper/mahogany colour. Vinous caramelly nose. Very sweet with full body and soft mouthfeel. Spunn sugar, molasses and red wine. More intense than complex. The wonderfully soft mouthfeel enhances the experience. Warming soothing finish.

From bottle. Pours a deep dark ruby color, almost brownish, with no head to speak of. Nice alcohol legs on the side of the glass. Aroma is sweet-ish and complex: caramel, wood, red wine, pears and plums, little booze. Aroma is sweet and complex again: wood, bourbon, red wine, red berries, plums, licorice and some booze. Almost full bodied with little carbonation. This is a striking mix between a barley wine and a red wine/porto wine. Definitely liquor chracteristics as well. Very well integrated and complex, yet enjoyable and never overwhelming.

Bottle @ Miss January / AA Meeting Afterparty Tasting, March 2012. Pours red copper with bubbles on top. Nose is oak, tobacco, red wine and fruit. Low carbonation. Full bodied. A sipper - lack complexity compared to Luna.
