COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Xyauyù Barrel is the result of a “wicked idea” of Teo’s and years of research. It is a top-fermented beer which has gone through macrooxidation and has been aged in oak rum barrels to give it scents of dates, caramel and a delicate wooden note. When poured, it has no head and no gas; it has a dark color with copper nuances.

From the barrel at Open Baladin, Roma - 02/10/12. Clear chestnut brown/amber still in appearance like a fine brandy with no head. Big old whisky nose, wood and medicinal tones. Tastes of dark toffee, whisky, dates, prunes, dark fruit and wood. Smooth as in the feel, superb. Full bodied with little carbonation, as good as it gets on the palate. Overall a top draw barley wine!

Bottle @ home. Pours with a deep red colour, absolutely no head whatsoever. Aroma is extremely fruity, including, but not limited to, grapes, red fruit, woodberries and a hundred other fruits; a little faint, but it’s ok from a barley wine. Taste is extremely sweet, very little bitter; not at all balanced, but I really enjoy it. Medium body, oily texture, absolutely flat carb. Quite an extreme "beer", I can understand if somebody hates it; but I found it to be quite an astounding one. Mother of all barley wines!

Dark mahogany and very full-bodied, if not thick. Wonderful intensely sweet and fruity aroma, a rich flavour dominated by raisins, prunes and rum, with a port wine-like character, and a very sweet taste. There is no trace of bitterness or carbonation - or the alcohol, which is quite impressive. Overall, this beer is highly vinous and very tasty, but besides the sweetness it is also relative mild and not very complex. I enjoyed the 8 cl I drank, but more than that would quickly have become cloying, and I would need to lower my grade accordingly.

2010 bottle acquired at Baladin Bologna, shared at a tasting. Pours copper with no head or carbonation. Aroma of caramel, candied sugar and light red fruit. Taste is heavily sweet, syrupy with dried sweet grapes. Highly vinous and very odd. Just extremely sweet and not so much else.

Note: 9/10

Bottle. Aroma is so intense. Rich dense fruit, rum, maple, oak, and raisins. Tastes extremely sweet but so smooth. Almost mead like. Syrupy mouthfeel. So much dense fruit, maple and oak. Very unique and delicious. Love it.

Partagée en compagnie de Mettew au St-Bock. Cheers my friend!
