4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 fiulijn (12179) - Malmö, DENMARK - AUG 22, 2010
2010-08-21, vintage 2005, 8-4-8-4-16=40 The Xyauyù Ultimate Tasting http://tinyurl.com/xyauyu1 Darker shade of amber, darker than the Gold and Copper versions; flat. Aroma of caramel, alcohol, with a medium intensity oxidisation; evident fruity touch (raisins), like a Pedro Ximenez, and an edge of bitter almonds and wood; therefore more vinous than honeyish, compared to the Copper. Extremely sweet malt flavor, syrupy caramel; there is a nutty touch that is better integrated than in the less oxidized versions. The final is sweet. Very good, definitively better than the Gold, comparable to the Copper, but just a shade less interesting.
2010-06-04, vintage 2006, RBESG 2010, bottle at Bir&Fud, Rome, 7-4-7-3-14=35 Dark amber color, brighter than the Gold. Light malt aroma. Sweet caramel and malt flavor, oxidized, with high alcohol perception. Low bitterness. Unimpressive.

(500ml "silver" bottle, 2006 vintage) Pours a clear amber body with a spare off-white head. Aroma of caramel, raisins, vanilla, wood, leather, and almonds. Flavor of caramel, butterscotch, raisins, some fruitiness, and honey.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Glouglouburp (5568) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 21, 2010
In short: A very sweet, fruity and boozy beer of some kind. Surprising good dessert sipper.
How: From a 375ml bottle at Montreal Mondial de la Bière 2010. Side-by-side with Oro (Golden Label) version
The look: Almost clear amber body with almost not head
In long: Nose is like a big. Taste is rich. Toffee, mix bag of fruits, wood, bread crust, pie crust, alcohol, light spicy touch. Very very sweet. No hops presence at all. Smooth carbonation and surprisingly nice syrupy mouthfeel. I am not a big fan of boozy sweet beer but this one worked for me as some kind of liquefied alcoholised dessert. This is a nice beer but at this price I don’t think I’ll have it again. They were selling the 4oz sample $9(!!!) at Mondial. I can imagine what a full bottle must cost, it must cost 4 crocodiles and a rainbow, I have a fertile imagination.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Ibrew2or3 (5777) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - JUN 26, 2010
Another huge thanks to SHIG for these Italian beauties. Thanks Shawn! Pours clear copper with zero head and thick chunky legs fumbling down the inner edge of the glass. The aroma is smooth thick dank prunes, apricot juice reduction, ripe plums and then moving toward a sweet sherry sense and a mild oxidation note or two. The taste pulls off the same level of richness smoothness and yum-ness as delivered to the nose with sugar covered pureed and simmered ripe prunes, apricots and figs. And then it seems all those notes are poured over caramel covered wood. In the background is a consistent thin layer of sweet sherry and slightly earthy oxidized note that blends seamlessly into the experience.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 stobbe74 (3788) - DENMARK - JUN 24, 2010
Bottle. Pours a clear, reddish copper beer with no head. The aroma is sweetness, fruit and some alcohol. The flavor is sweet, fruit, malt, dried fruit and some alcohol. The palate is sweetness. Overall a good, complex, balanced and sweet beer. Good sipper.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dickinsonbeer (5075) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JUN 21, 2010
Shared with Dany and Ryan at Mondial 2010. Pours a still bright copper amber with some nice thick legs. Aroma is less maple than the oro, but more earthy, leather, cedar, toast, burnt aged madiera, slight toffee, maple, honey and some paper oxidation. Flavor is leather, spice, pepper, cedar wood, sandalwood, toffee, light molasses and lyles golden syrup sugary sweetness, oxidation, some sherry and light paper ox, and lots of fruity esters especially as it breaths- kind of get some cherry and apple pie fruit and spice thing going on. Strange but still better than the original I think.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Plovmand (5712) - Helsinge, DENMARK - JUN 19, 2010
Bottle. Deep amber with no head. The aroma is dark fruity, with lots of caramel and sweet ripe fruit. The flavour is light alcoholic, with notes of ripe sweet fruit, caramel, sweet malt and light spices.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 madmitch76 (9867) - , Essex, ENGLAND - JUN 13, 2010
4th June 2010. Bottle at the Bir & Fud restaurant. Huge thanks to the owners for supplying the bottle on the house. Clear dark amber beer, zero head. Much less sweet than the Gold Label and I really wish we had tried this first. Still very sherry like in character but with less sweetness other characteristics come to the fore. Light milk chocolate and malt. A little warmth at the end. Excellent beer but in the shadow of the Gold Label.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Borresteijn (3647) - Amsterdam, NETHERLANDS - JUN 8, 2010
Sample from a bottle, Bir&Fud, RBESG Rome day 2. Clear amber colour, no head. Aroma of sweet fruits, moslty raisins, heavy malty. Flavour is thick, syrupy, sweet raisins, bit like Madeira wine without the oxidized notes. Alcohol in the finish. Fullbodied. Too sweet for me.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 sebletitje (5416) - Enghien, BELGIUM - JUN 6, 2010
Much cheers to Shig for bringing the whole collection straight from Italy.
This is another one of those beers that has me pause and marvel at how great a beer is. Hard to hold a glass of this beer and sip on such goodness.
2005 bottle. Nice amber color, thin tan lace.
Aroma has a lot of caramel, caramelized sugars, notes of floral hops leaning on the blossom aroma.
Flavors, sweet honey like palate, a barley that could easily be a mead. Nice malts, sirupy, palate is smooth, sticky, and the abv is right where it should be. This is intense in flavors, perfect desert beer, drinks like a port and could sip on it for hours.
Words cannot make this beer justice.
