RATINGS: 177   WEIGHTED AVG: 3.97/5   EST. CALORIES: 405   ABV: 13.5%
A beer brewed and matured to 13.5% ABV going to 14.5% in next productions.
Malts: Pilsner Durst, aromatic Dingemans, caramunich 140 Dingemans. Hops: Hallertau Hernsbrucker, Spalt Select and East Kent Golding.
Brewing process: the wort is hyperconcentrated then boiled for two hous and half. Primary fermentation for 25 in steel vessels. Then after a sterile filtration (to eliminate primary yeast strains) the beer is transfered in a steel vessel with transparent membrane and a "oxygen hat". Afeter several tasting from 6 to 24 months later (it depends on the oxidation velocity, very inconsistant!) the brewer decides when its time to bottle in 50cl. champagne shape bottles with good quality cork. The production is very limited. Three productions brewed during two years will be available from October 2006.

Teo Musso produces three versions Gold, Silver & Copper label which differ from each other in terms of degree of oxidation allowed and fruity perfumery aromas created. Teos objective is to allow Xyauyu to perfectly oxidize during the aging proces of 2.5 years {oxidation plays a critical role in aging port, sherry, as well as our vintage beers - too much oxidation will ruin the liquid - too little will not optimize the change in flavor / aroma during the aging process} .Heres how Teos system works: Xyauyu is transfered to a steel vessel with transparent membrane and a "oxygen hat". After several tastings during the 2.5 year aging process Teo decides when its time to bottle (it all depends upon the oxidation velocity).
This golden beer reminds of an enjoyable Madera or an intriguing Chateau Chalon of the French Jura.

Bronze medal at the World Beer Cup 2014, category "Experimental beer"

Editors note: the label says also "Riserva Teo Musso" and the vintage (year).

Bottle from SB. Seems like some people have accidentally rated the Xyauy Barrel instead of this one, but from the text its clear this is the one that we got. 2009 vintage. Pours hazy red with literally no head. Aroma is a sweet fruit bomb. Theres muscovado, raisins, prunes, dates, alcohol, port barrel, madeira, caramel, nuts. You know it will taste sweet the second you smell it... Taste is very sweet, surprisingly un-boozy. Lots of dried fruit, sugar. The flatness of the carbonation strikes you - its not there at all! Finish is long, lightly boozy and sweet. Realizing I just poured a 50 cl bottle to myself, Im thinking this might be too much, but hey, Im celebrating a great day, so whatever...

The taste is caramel honey, molasses, brown sugar, spice, Xmas cake, oily, sticky, light alcohol warmth and good bite to it. Full body, low carbonation and oily/viscous mouth-feel. Smooth and good depth of flavour. Nice sipper.

From a corked bottle at Open Baladin, Roma, 10/02/13. Lightly hazed chestnut brown with no head. Nose is rich with dark fruits, raisens, dates, wood, prunes, brown sugars, almond, booze - but kept well in check and not overpowering. Taste comprises dark fruits, dark toffee fudge, woody tones, prunes, brown sugars, dates, booze. Full bodied, no carbonation, dry and boozey in the finish. An excellent well balanced barley wine, the alcohol is expertly integrated for a 13.5% beer!
