COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A beer brewed and matured to 13.5% ABV going to 14.5% in next productions.
Malts: Pilsner Durst, aromatic Dingemans, caramunich 140 Dingemans. Hops: Hallertau Hernsbrucker, Spalt Select and East Kent Golding.
Brewing process: the wort is hyperconcentrated then boiled for two hous and half. Primary fermentation for 25 in steel vessels. Then after a sterile filtration (to eliminate primary yeast strains) the beer is transfered in a steel vessel with transparent membrane and a "oxygen hat". Afeter several tasting from 6 to 24 months later (it depends on the oxidation velocity, very inconsistant!) the brewer decides when its time to bottle in 50cl. champagne shape bottles with good quality cork. The production is very limited. Three productions brewed during two years will be available from October 2006.

Editors note: the label says also "Riserva Teo Musso" and the vintage (year).

[I also tasted this some time before official release, namely at GBBF August 2005, courtesy of Lorenzo. Thanks a bunch.] A pale brown beer with no head, but it lazes the glass just like a sherry. The aroma is very sweet with notes of prunes and wood. The flavor is sweet, but at the same time slightly sour, somewhat like a Flemmish Sour Ale, combined with notes of lots of wood and lots of prunes and grapes, but also a slight alcohol burn. The mouthfeel is thick like syrup. WOW - I want to get hold of this when it is released.

Bottled (2nd CS/ES Beer Gathering, thanks SV!). Slightly hazy reddish amber colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is alcohol, some madeira wine like notes along with wooden and vanillaish notes. Flavour is sweet malts, vanilla, mild spicyness, madeiralike, spicy and also has quite much alcohol filling it up. Yet very balanced.

Bottled. Deep copper colour, viscous with no head. Intense cognac aroma. Sweet and soft with lots of molasses. Thick and mouthcoating oily, hugely malty with raisins and cognac. Velvetty and pleasant with mild warming alcohol. A huge beer.

Bottle. Vintage 2005. Pours a clear amber color with a small off-white head. Has a sweet malty dark fruit and caramel aroma with some alcoholic hints. Smooth sweetish malty dark fruit and caramel flavor. Has a fruity malty warming dark fruit flavor with some hints of alcohol and caramel in the aftertaste. Very nice.

A 2004 bottle at 13.0% abv. Cloudy brown beer, no head and utterly devoid of carbonation. But it works here. Remarkably sweet barleywine. Sweet caramel and toffee with an undercurrent of Porty red fruits. Soft sweet finish. The abv only manifesting as a warming afterglow. Unique beer!

Hazy dark amber color, lighter than the Silver and Gold; flat. Caramel aroma, sweet, oxidized, with light vanilla, less fruity than the silver, with more alcohol; it reminds me some accomplished French or Polish Mead. Very sweet malt juice; the alcohol seems more evident than in others, but it complements well the sweetness; there is a good trace of raisins. The final is more nutty. Excellent, solid as the Silver, but more vibrant.

2006-02-04, I had a taste of this at the Birratrovo in Como, 7-3-7-3-15=35
Amber colour, still. Strong aroma and taste, thick and oily; caramel and mature malt (Madeira), wood influence, Porto wine. Interesting.

UPDATED: MAY 31, 2010 mmm mmm mmm, My most expensive beer at 28E or ~20 I was worried about this at that price but i loved it. Deep ruby coloured, rich liquer like tracle rum nose, think viscous syrupy sweet with a little smokeyness, little woody treacle, with hints of sherry and a little spirit like evaporation on the pallate. Acording to the bottle its also best before "the end of the world"

nice deep red ... deep rich soft treacle and plums .... rich syrupy body ... light meatyness ... toffee ... just so smoooth ... no alcohol showing ... all the best aspects of barley wines ... im glad this hasnt dissapointed ... so im gonna stick at 4.8 its tricky at this level definitly 4.5+ but yeah i am digging this so gonna stick ... Ok almost all the way through ... stunning but droping just a pip to 4.7

Bottle @ Open Baladin, Rome. Pours unclear golden with no head. Nose is rich and vinous. Port and dark fruit. Extremely vinous and delicious. Dark fruit, port and oak. Low carbonation. Tannins. Some warmth. Complex and better than the silver for sure.
