4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 alalvarez75 (53) - New York, USA - MAY 9, 2012
I’d have rated this a tad bit higher if I like the taste of peat... if you like scotch, you’ll like this. No carbonation, pours richly and flat into the glass. The smell lets you know you are about to taste something VERY unique. Smell is smokey, sweet, with alcohol. Oh no... but NO, the taste does not have a boozy taste. Mostly sweet smoke with a little tea, slight alcohol finish.
Very rich, but the bottle is small, so it can be a 2 person brew. Complex and amazing, if you find one splurge.

Huge thanks to Masterski for bringing this one to the Stone tasting. Served in a SAVOR glass.
Pours a moderate caramel color without much of a head. Perhaps some legs after a bit of a swirl. The nose brings great notes of sherry, sweet malt, caramel, and light fruit, plus a lingering smoke character in the background. The flavor is similar with a greater emphasis on the smoke. Body is medium and sweetly chewy without really any alcohol. Really nice and smooth. Glad to have tried this.
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 KyotoLefty (3752) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAR 15, 2012
10 cl pour from the bottle at Open Baladin Roma, side-by-side with the Gold label and the Luna riserva. Aroma of Lapsong Souchong tea, plum, spices, chai, smoke. Slightly medicinal. Reddish brown, flat. Flavor of smoky tea, caramel, raisins. Huge sweetness, smoke and berries. Great palate. Very nice but the Gold is better.

Hell yes. Brown pour. Aroma is sweet and rich. Dried fruit, peat, wood, booze, and caramel. Flavor is loaded with some spicy tea notes, dark fruit, raisins, toffee and peat. Damn fine brew. DAMN FINE.

Picked up at Knightly Spirits December 2009, I think. The 500mL bottle pours clear deep copper with no head. The moderate strength aroma offers up sweet sugary cherries and prunes as well as smokiness that takes on sort of a light peaty sense at the end of the draw and upon post whiff reflection. The taste is expectedly big with bold smooth sweetness where flavors like prunes, ripe cherries and dates seemed to be thinly covered by brown sugar. Toward midway some dry smoky pork and a bit of peat come to the surface taking this into the finish. It leaves a pleasing smooth smokiness, sweet slippery dark fruit esters and a faint sense of peat heading into the after taste. Yummy and interesting brew where the huge ABV is hardly noticed.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Mortlach (433) - Rome, ITALY - JAN 17, 2012
18/05/2011 Open Baladin Roma (2006 vintage bottle).

[2006 edition]
Pours clear chestnut with no head. Aroma is sweet, some port, some caramel, tea, sharply vinious, plant sap, cactus. Very low carbonation, fat and oily mouthfeel. Flavour is very elegant, caramel sweetness abound, slight smoke, peity, sugary and herbal. Delicious fat mouthfeel.

Bottle shared by Dave, thanks man! Pours a mostly clear dark copper color with no head, a slick oily body. A super sweet nose of syrup, berries, caramel, oxidation, some earthiness. A similar flavor of super sweetness with candies, caramel, huge heat, rich earthiness and berries. Not that much smoke but more earthiness from the tea. Very good. Decadent and beastly.

bottle from sprdv 7/3/11.
brown pour with no head or carbonation.
smells great.... vanilla, malt syrup, peaty earthiness, black tea, mild smoke, grass, honey and seaweed.
the flavor is a huge let down...it is unholy sweet, lacking any kind of balance and generally unpalatable. thick, cloying and harsh.
