This beer is at the intersection of purity, body and flavor on the venn diagram that is on its label.

No better beer in the USA at the price. Wish it was more readily available in the Midwest.

For a 40oz/Malt Liquor drinker Ballantine is the best ever. Great Ale taste, drinking an ice cold Ballantine 40 is like heaven. This great Ale not only has historic value but might have the best label of all time. When I die I want to be embalmed with Ballantine

Great Ale nothing like a regular pilsner as some have said.I rate it up there with Pilzner Urquell.Great aroma great taste and after taste is savory, hard for me to get but worth the 1200 miles I drove to get it.

Ah, the tradition of Ballantine. The IPA is apparently no longer available (pity) and the only place I see the lager is on episodes of Frasier. His dad drinks it. Ballantine’s regular ale is not as good as it used to be but still offers more flavor and character than most run of the mill American standard lagers. This is a good stepping stone away from the norm and toward the craft world. This is the kind of light golden ale that was so common in the U.S. during the 40s and 50s, but with a little less character.

I had this a while back, I thought it was very good tasting, being it the oldest brewery in the usa at one time, and I thought I should get it and try it out. It is an ale but hey I like beer so wether it’s ale or pilsner I always give it at least one shot, and if it’s good Ill get it again, oh its good with pretzels

If this was "America’s largest-selling ale," as the can says, I think it would not have taken me so damned long to find it. That said, it’s not bad at all. There’s actually some hop there; I agree with HighGravity about this being like a "complex Lord Chesterfield." The full mouthfeel proclaims "Hey! Ale here!" unlike many other American blonde/cream ales. And extra points all around for the Hunter S. Thompson connection.

This is one of my favorite beers, because it’s probably the hoppiest mass market beer ever. Be warned though, a night of Ballantine will give you a massive headache the next day
