1998 vintage thanks to Dr. Bill..this poured with a few big bubbles atop a murky brown chestnut color...deep aged malt aroma with sweetness, oak notes, and a smidgen of port...the carbination was flat...the flavors were of aged malt and licorice/anise..similiar to an aged sample of J.W. Lees but without all the sweetness.

Orange amber color. Small head. Aroma is malty and sweet with a touch of cinnamon. A medium bodied barley wine. Malts are fruity and sweet. Hops are slightly bitter, earthy and piney. Alcohol is very slightly noticeable at 9.3%. Nice smooth tasting barley wine, there is a lot of nice subtle stuff going on. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet with a touch of alcohol bite. Thanks to Dr Bill for this one.

Uuh - I liked it. dark browm color, flat looking, no head - can"t see through the brew. Meaty wood, grilled and smoked nose with some fruity notes. Also Malt and Chocolate. First unlikely very licorice taste. Almost strangling your throat, but this goes by fast and leaves an unbelieveable long lasting peaty, smoked, aftertaste with a bitter metallic kick. Very intersting - though kind of agressive in the beginning - you almost fear for the next swallow even you know a nice aftertaste is to follow.

Thanks to the esteemed Dr. Bill for this one! Murky brown with hints of raisins, prunes and lots of malt! Toffee and a slight hint of port.

Little head, just little brownish layer; brown beer with orange shine, hazy. Vinous nose, fruity. Quite bitter taste, bit piney and hops. Flavour of blueberry sauce. Hops come out more strongly in the finish but always hint of sweet underbuild. Bit syrupy, feel like "meaty" wine. Virtually no carbonation. This poor carbonation notwithstanding, this beer has good balance, taste- and otherwise. Resembles some American brews. Better than the Alchemist in my book.

Thanks Dr. Bill for this rarety. This barley wine pours with a slightly cloudy amber-brown body topped by a thin head with little lacing. It’s sweet and malty with slight smokey notes, lots of caramel and toffee and avery slight alcohol esters. Medium bodied and smooth.

This beer is shocking - you want to hate it initially, but it grows on you. Strong head of sweet malt. Grilled aroma (!), like a muted Aecht Schlenkera. Brown color and no head. Fat sweet caramelly malt body. Almost smoky, but not really. Definitely woody. Crisp metallic end with a lingering peatiness. Wild balance or flavors. Interesting for sure!
