3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled. Clear ruby, no head. Vinous nose. Very sweet with some caramel and chocolate as well as coffee. Full bodied and very salty. Comparing to Right Angler it is more fruity/berryish, and alcohol plays a more prominent part. Warming and intense.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled at the DC/MD/VA/WV/PA Ratebeer Gathering 11/20/04. Pours clear amber copper with an off white head. Aroma is malty with caramel. The taste has more of the same along with some molasses, dark fruit, a hint of ginger and toffee. Mouthfeel was full and round but not as syrupy sweet as other barleywines. Nice brew.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Caramelly, molasses nose with some fig and lots of alcohol. Deep murky mahogany color with no head or carbonation. Heavy syrupy malt body, some toasted flavors, some toffee. Gritty end with a lingering dirty bitter. Leaves a coating of sweet sugary malt on your lips. Powerful beer, for sure, but not so thrilling after all.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Deep ruby colour.Alcohol is obvious but not overwhelming. Chewy malt and plummy fruit to the fore. Rather sweet. Syrupy mouthfeel. Warming alcohol afterburn. A bit short on hops, although some bitter acidity comes through late. Fair enough, but nothing really leaps out. Bottled.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Oily, murky brown color, no head. Looks heavy. Alcohol, malt and some hoppy tones - and a lot of almonds. Suprisingly flat and thin bodied. Alcohol kicks the tip of the tongue and vanishes right away. Some biting bitter coffee taste - nearly like fresh grounded coffee beans - weird.
