On tap takeover at Cole’s in Buffalo. Pours dark with slight head and great smokey aroma. The taste is very mild though and for those who aren’t big fans of drinking a campfire, this is probably for you.

Sixtel, at home. Pours a clear copper body with a nice one finger frothy beige head that has pretty good retention. Some nice light lacing remains. The nose shows a nice level of smokiness, not the most aggressive by any means, but the quality of the smoke makes up for it. It’s conjuring up a nice combination of campfires and smoked meats. Some slight underlying caramel and toasted malt sweetness. The flavor is similar to the aroma, enough smoke to get the point across but not so much that it would turn off those who aren’t familiar with the style. It lingers on the finish a bit before being swept away by the residual sweetness of the malt. Minimal hop level. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with soft gentle carbonation. Pretty decent beer, I could personally go for a bit more smoke, but I’ve never met a beer with too much smoke.

Brown pour with small off-white head. Smokey nose. Super light body. Smokey and smooth. Another good beer for a session but even more kick ass in a marinade or soup.

Sample at Bodega. The beer pours a clear dark brownish-amber color with a medium tan head that dissipates steadily. Short strings of lace. Aroma of smoked malts and fruit. Light to medium body with a smoky character and notes of toasted malt and ripe fruit. The finish is smoky with notes of toffee and hops left behind. Decent overall.

Draught at Rattle ’N’ Hum, NYC. June 2. Pours a clear deep amber with a spare lasting creamy white head. Aroma of smoke, a good amount but not over the top, along with caramel malt and fruit. Interesting flavour, smoky and fruity, I like it. Medium bodied. Good stuff, an enjoyable beer.
