2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Sampled on draft at Hough’s this beer poured a bright golden color with a large foamy yellow-white head that lingered and left incredible lacing. The aroma was bitter, chalky and had citrus and perfume notes. The flavor was bitter, chalky, ginger powder, perfume and harsh fruity hops. Long finish. Medium body. Meh.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Poured from a bottle, San Diego. No hint of ginger in the aroma, which is weak, but very hoppy. Beautiful amber, mild foamy head with good carbonation. Putting ginger in an IPA is a no-brainer, but I don’t even taste it! Just a hoppy IPA with a light mouthfeel.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours hazy orange with a yellowish head. Smells of pine, citrus, and ginger. Taste is piney with a subtle spiciness. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and average mouth-carbonation, Ballast Point Ginger Big Eye finishes with a ginger kiss.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Ei8ht Ball, served in a flight. Pours a cloudy gold with a white head that laces the glass while settling into a ring and film. Definite ginger and pepper spice, with citrus zest, grass, straw, and some pale and sweet malts. Light-bodied, with a bitter, spicy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Now that Ballast Point has blitzed the market with these variants of their standards, I can’t help but think these are gimmicks. The standards have been such high-quality beers and the bases are getting lost under really strong adjuncts. They’re not all bad, per se, but they sacrifice depth and nuance to serve the variant.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
3.5/5 on appearance, nice medium brown appearance with solid foamy head. Smells great.. like your typical quality IPA, with a hint of sweet ginger (which I may not have suspected if it weren’t mentioned). Balanced.. nice malt and citrusy hops. Ginger just a little present, mostly in the aftertaste. Average IPA bitterness, not too much carbonation. I like it.
