Our Big Eye IPA is a big hoppy brew, thanks to the abundance of American Columbus and Centennial varieties we use to flavor and dry hop. While the English originally added extra hops to preserve their beers for sea travel, we do it for the love of all that bold, intense flavor that makes India Pale Ale one of our favorite styles.

Another popular West Coast IPA I hadn’t rated yet... Thick and frothy, irregular, egg-white head leaving dispersed lacing on the edges, colour is lightly hazy, amberish orange blonde. Rich, ’dank’ and appetizing aroma of all good things you’d expect from an American style IPA: blood orange, lemon blossom, mojito-like lime, quite a lot of cedar wood and toasted sweet onion, hemp, galanga, mango, sweet biscuit and almond bread underneath. Crisp onset of sweet blood orange flesh, mango and ripe pineapple perfectly kept in balance by basic redcurrant sourishness and a clearly, even somewhat tiresome salty edge on the sides of the tongue, an effect not uncommon in this type of beers. Carbo is soft, body is smooth, light and supple; brief biscuity malt sweetishness shines but the initial saltiness expectedly turns into a big wave of resinous, piney, citrusy, spicy hop bitterness in the end, both deeply tonic water-like bittering and very aromatic retronasally, drying the end to the bone - I get almost no malt sweetness anymore at the back. The saltiness did bother me a bit, especially since it is linked to the hops and therefore carries on till after the finish, but other than that, this is exemplary for its style, though I doubt it to be better than their much more famous Sculpin. I do, however, like this brewery’s beers a lot in general, as well as the maritime theme (in this case the bigeye tuna), but I heard that they were recently taken over by a large drinks company for a billion dollars... I do hope this turn towards the mass industry will not impair the quality of their beers - definitely something to watch with suspicion.

My first IPA, and all I could taste was the bitterness, which remained and passed on to the next beer.

on tap @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Clear dark amber color, white head that drops to a cover, sheets of lace. Aroma of malt and hops. Taste is slightly sweet malt that moves through a medium carbonated swallow to a finish that has enough hops to balance, but certainly not a lot for an IPA. A nice drinking brew, hides the 7% abv very well.

Rich amber color. Fine blend of hops and malt sweetness. Cheaper than Sculpin in our market.

Bottle. Darkish amber with rich even head. Supple and juicy, with good bitterness. Plenty of sweetness in there too tho, with toffee, grapefruit and pine prominent. Lively and moreish.

Flaska@Sorbon Brommaplan. Gyllengyl vätska. Mycket fruktig. Ananas, mango och grape. Fruktig och god smak med en ordentlig maltkropp. Men ändå bra balanserad. Mer östkust än västkust.

Pours an orange amber about SRM 17. Thick white head with tons of lacing around my glass. Aroma is slightly dank with notes of tropical fruits. Peppery spice and caramel malt. Flavor is floral with notes of grapefruit and the sweetness of the malt. . medium body with a creamy texture. Finish is a floral dryness that is crisp and lasting. I am a huge two hearted fan but I think this has won me over.

Aroma is pine, fruity with a bit of malt. Appearance is amber golden, off white head. Taste is a mix of malt and tropical fruit, very bitter but juicy, the malt destroys it though. Mouthfeel is crisp carbonation and medium body. Overall, this was not as good as I wanted it to be.
