COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
If you have fallen for the IPA style like we have, Big Eye will be a welcome addition to your repertoire. You’ll revel in Big Eye’s bitter, hoppy flavor thanks to the American Columbus and Centennial hops that are used to flavor and dry hop our flagship IPA. We thank our hops every day that the English loved their bitters—or else the IPA style may not have been born to help the beer survive the journey from Cape Hope to India back in the 18th century.

22oz bottle via trade with tever - Thanks Tom! - Pours copper with a fair offwhite head that stays pretty well and laces some. Aromas of big centennial hops mostly but behind that there is a little caramel malt I could detect. Flavor is dominated by centennial too. Mostly grapefruit citrus, a little pine and some caramel and biscuit malts behind it. Pretty well balanced and a smooth drinking IPA.

UPDATED: SEP 11, 2008 Brand new to New Jersey, and I’ve got a fresh bomber. Clear orange with a medium head. Fair lacing as you work down the glass. Aroma of FRESH citrus and tropical fruit hops along with caramel and biscuit malts. Balanced. Light to medium body. Mostly dry taste and bitter finish. Much better than the last time I rated this.

220z bottle from Bev Mo POurs Slight golden with a large fluffy ivory head Nose: Dense hop notes tangerine, resiny, slight caramel and toastiness...nice Taste: Big firm opening hop bite (almost astringent) with woody, marmalade like pith flavors, some toast some fruits all held back with a BIG hop load Palate: Medium bodied with a slight creaminess which cannot hold back the hop bite yielding to a long dry hop flavor... which needs another sip for respite Overall: A very good IPA, not something seen oft in the bay area... Not to pass by. I personally find the hop character rather one-dimensional and a little low on the aroma

22 oz bottle. Hazy orange brown with a thin, off-white head. Big lace rings. Watermelon, grapefruit and nectarine. Pink grapefruit with a caramel toffee backbone. Bitter lemon drying. Zippy carb lightens up the strong malts but overall a bit heavy for an IPA.

Nice IPA. I’ve had several very nice IPA’s lately, and this is one of them. It’s nice that while they are all similar, they each have their own nuances, even though i can always pinpoint, at least verbally, the differences. Nice amber color [slightly darker than some] Creamy head that seems to last a little. Nice lace all the way down. Tastes good, full of hoppy goodness. Fairly well balanced. I’d add this to regular rotation, but it’s not available locally, and that’s OK too. [ serving type: bottle ]

(12oz bottle) Large, rocky beige head atop a crystal clear amber body. Aroma is medium sweet, grapefruit, light caramel, pine. Taste is medium sweet, pine, grapefruit, some lime, light bread. Strong bitterness. Some dryness in the finish. Chewy medium body, but easy drinking -- half of it was gone before I even noticed.

Thanks to Vac for this one. Sticky hop aroma, syrupy scents and some malt and tea (wort) aromas. The appearance is a clear golden brown with a nice off-white head. A medium palate that is very smooth supports nice caramel malt flavors witha good dose of bittering hops.

UPDATED: MAY 29, 2008 Medium amber and orange hue with clear body. Mostly lasting, good, off white, creamy head. Aroma is mix of flowers (roses mainly) with orange starburst candy citrus and sweet scent. Flavor is consistent with aroma and sufficiently hopped; San Diego style. Balanced and intense, but not offensive. Palate is coating with lingering bitter kick. This is a well-hoped, balanced with toasted sweet barley, and very attractive brew.
