If you have fallen for the IPA style like we have, Big Eye will be a welcome addition to your repertoire. You’ll revel in Big Eye’s bitter, hoppy flavor thanks to the American Columbus and Centennial hops that are used to flavor and dry hop our flagship IPA. We thank our hops every day that the English loved their bitters—or else the IPA style may not have been born to help the beer survive the journey from Cape Hope to India back in the 18th century.

I started, as I always do with a new beer, enjoying and savouring each sip (gulp) and with this I just ended up enjoying it as a quaffing beer. It’s sneakily very good. No over bitter, and no rush of under taste of hops and a fine balance of hops. If you like IPA you could do a lot worse than getting your own party in a bottle with one of these.

Bottle poured a deep golden hue w/ large lasting white head. Bold floral hop aromas. Initial flavor is moderate sweet w/ a bold bitter finish. Tastes are pine, orange and lime. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

355 ml bottle, from Fakta Hirtshals. BB date is hard to read, but probably 25.03.2014. Slightly hazy deep golden to amber colour, moderate to low head, slightly off-white. Strong and unpleasant aroma of stale orange marmalade and rotting fruits and vegetables. Distinctly hoppy and resinous flavour, better than the aroma, not too sweet, with a solid bitterness in the finish.

Clear golden with a thick white head. Aroma is grapefruit hops with just a hint of pine. Flavor is grapefruit again with a bit of dry pine hops in the finish. Very drinkable, and quite good with spicy food. Brings out the natural fruitiness. Could use a touch more malt to round out the body, it’s just a bit thin. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours amber with a thin white head. Aroma of pine, citrus and grapefruit. Flavor was dry and bitter with pine, grapefruit, citrus, caramel and had a pale malty backbone.

Poured from the bottle into a snifter. Pours a cloudy yellow orange with a small white head. Aroma is comprised of pine, citrus, resin, and floral notes. Taste has a nice balance of all the aromas. Dry on the end without being overly bitter, medium bodied beer with a moderate amount of carbonation and a sticky mouth feel. Thoroughly enjoyed this one.

Pours a beautfiul shinny clear dark golden/ orange with golden hues and a white head. Aroma is a clean resinous pine with some sweet notes. Flavor is pine hops with a touch of grapefruit and slight caramel malts, great hoppy aftertaste. Medium palate. Tasty, clean and not over the top.

BOD 241/14. Pours a very slightly hazy medium amber with a light dark ruby cast. As it warms, the chill haze disappears. Above average head volume and retention, world class lacing. Outstanding nose of sweet tropicals (pineapple, mango and tangerine) over caramel with a peppery note. Light medium body with a nice smooth texture that approaches slick. Well carbonated with a effervescent rush from the middle to the finish. The outstanding flavor profile is intense, very well balanced and complex in terms of hop flavor. It begins with a burst of blended hop flavor that separates into the tropical components as it fades into a caramel sweetness. Interestingly, a grapefruit rind flavor is also noted as it flows into the mild bitterness of the middle coupled with a pepper note. The finish is a slow fade from residual caramel sweetness into a rind like mild lingering bitterness.
