COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
If you have fallen for the IPA style like we have, Big Eye will be a welcome addition to your repertoire. You’ll revel in Big Eye’s bitter, hoppy flavor thanks to the American Columbus and Centennial hops that are used to flavor and dry hop our flagship IPA. We thank our hops every day that the English loved their bitters—or else the IPA style may not have been born to help the beer survive the journey from Cape Hope to India back in the 18th century.

A: Deep orange color. Pure white head with pretty decent retention. S: A little light but notes of citrus. Lemon, orange.... T: Very citrusy and fruity. Hops are a little aggressive but otherwise complimentary. P: Very very smooth on the palate. Carbonation is creamy rather than bubbly. Overall this is a great IPA. The smooth mouthfeel really brings together some great fruit, floral, and bitter tastes.

Aroma: Pine resin, sweet malt and a bit of citrus. Appearance: Amber with an steady, off-white head. Flavor: Malty sweet up front, followed by an aggressive hop bitterness. Palate: Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation and a long very bitter finish. Overall: Bitterness is a tad overwhelming.

Pours deep orangish/amber from draft. Sweet citrus hops in the nose. Hops in the taste as well but something seems a little off with how it is blending in with some of the malt. Maybe something in my tasting preference. Decent.

Lighter copper, bubbly. Aroma is earthy with pine and citrus notes. Taste is creamy, a lot of malt presence, with grapefruit bitterness and pine needles to round out the hop profile. Very resinous finish. Like the balance here- malt along with a layered/complex bitterness. ABV at 7.0 is a bit much. Solid overall.

355 ml bottle from wegmans in Niagara Falls ny. Deep orange with an off white head. Big crystal malt and punchy hop nose, more barley wine then ipa. The flavour is similar. Massively hoppy but there is a big malt body there too. Not my kind of ipa but a good one.

Pours copper with a very big off white head that leaves great lacing. Aroma is mild pine and orange peel from the hops, and quite a bit of caramel malt backbone, could use more hops in my opinion. Taste very smooth, hops and malt are decently balanced, but i feel that this one needs just a bit more hops in it, but that’s my preference, its still very good, light bitter finish with a dry floral and fruity taste that is refreshing.

This is an excellent example of an American style IPA. It has a definite hoppy balance - but that is exactly what is expected of a beer of this type. It would make a great benchmark of the style and would be surpassed by very few (if any).

The only thing i could point out that wouldn’t make this a standard great IPA is that it has a really, really dry mouth feel and taste...otherwise great beer!

pours orange, semi-opaque with good lacing and minimal head. aroma is very sweet on the nose with a piney-caramel smell. initially sweet upon tasting with a lingering somewhat strong bitter aftertaste. definitely full- bodied and thick. ipa is my favorite style of beer and this is a very good one especially if you like your bitterness on the high side.

Very fresh sample. New to Illinois. Pours out a deep copper color with a very sticky head. Smells like pine resin grapefruit touch of fruity zest. The taste is a blast of grapefruit and pine with a very bitter aftertaste. I like my IPAs bitter but this one's a bit rough around the edges. Mouthfeel is rich and full. Overall a good beer marred a bit by some harsh hop flavors. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
