GAManiac (340), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 28, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear, deep amber with a big dense two-finger head, much of which hangs around for the duration. Lacing is extremely nice. This is a fine looking IPA.
Smell is big floral and citrus hops up front with grapefruit, oranges and a hint of pine resins at the end. The hops are complimented nicely in the aroma with a sweet malt backbone.
The taste is a floral hop bitterness up front giving way to the sweet caramel malts in the middle before the pine hops come back for a bitter finish.
Mouthfeel is medium to full with high carbonation and just a tad sticky with pine hops lingering on the palate.
The pronounced malt presence makes for a very balance and dirinkable IPA. Not quite in the same class as the Sculpin, but I really enjoyed this one.
The_Captain (331), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 7, 2008 KSBF 08- Orange copper pour with a foam head. Floral hops and citrus. This was a citrus (Pine-grapefruit) hop brew with hop notes and a blended malt balance. Good lacing with some hop bitterness towards the end. Ok, not my favorite. rayOfBeer (265), El Cerrito, California, USA Oct 5, 2008 Poured from tap an amber-orange with small off white head. Nose is leafy floral hops with some citrus and sweet malt. Flavor is malty with a little sweetness, floral hops, orange citrus, pine, and some grapefruit that is lighly bitter. Palate is malty full with some sweetness and a mild hoppy bitter plus quite a bit of astringent alcohol noticible. Overall some nice flavors and aroma. The alcohol in the finish took away some of the enjoyment, but still good. afireinside96 (495), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 3, 2008 12oz bottle served in a stem glass. Orange amber body topped by a half inch of head. Sweet piney grapefruit nose. Lots of pine in the flavor, very resinous, tangerine, some grapefruit, and a nice caramel sweetness to back it up. Some lingering bitterness. The head doesn’t last very long but it somehow leaves a nice spiderweb of lace. This is a very nice IPA. radagast83 (1071), Springfield, Virginia, USA Oct 2, 2008 Pours a yellow/orange color with a small head. Aroma is grassy, with notes of strong hops and citrus. Flavor is citrus with a nice hoppy piney bitterness to it. Underhook (141), Lincoln Park, New Jersey, USA Sep 27, 2008 Pours cloudy orange with a very thin, soapy head. Strong, grassy hops pours from the bottle on opening and the glass on the pour. Super big hop bitterness punch. The Ratebeer profile says 55 IBUs but it tastes waaayyyy stronger which leads me to doubt that measurement. Strong, unbalanced hop flavor, fabulous for hop heads. A must try for IPA fans.
