If you have fallen for the IPA style like we have, Big Eye will be a welcome addition to your repertoire. You’ll revel in Big Eye’s bitter, hoppy flavor thanks to the American Columbus and Centennial hops that are used to flavor and dry hop our flagship IPA. We thank our hops every day that the English loved their bitters—or else the IPA style may not have been born to help the beer survive the journey from Cape Hope to India back in the 18th century.

I’ve had many bottles of this-- 12 oz and 22 oz, and I just had a 22 oz with lunch today-- and I like this IPA. Considering that I can get it many places (I live in Southern CA), and that a 22 oz bottle is just $3.99 at the place where I usually go, and it’s usually in-stock (as opposed to Pliny, which is not easy to get whenever you want it), there is a lot to like about this IPA. The finish, which strikes me as a little bitter, lingers longer than I would prefer, but otherwise this is a very fine example of a well-done west coast IPA. I have to wonder if they could improve the beer by incorporating something other than Centennial hops, but this is one of my go-to IPAs.

Flaska delad med @msbrindbergs, tack! Klar bärnstensfärgad vätska med ljust skum. Doftar bra humligt med tydlig maltbas. Riktigt smarrig!

Dark hazy amber color, with floral/citrus aroma. Taste is piney with hints of citrus and even some rye. Leaves a bitter taste that leaves you wanting more.

Flaska, privatimporterad. Klar gyllenbrun i färgen med ett trevligt smutsvitt skum. Härlig muskig centennialdoft. Grapefrukt framträdande i smaken. Barsk beska som kanske känns lite ofräsch. Påminner en hel del om Sculpin, men lite "grövre" på något sätt. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Medium amber and moderately heady pour with excellent clarity. An essence of caramel malts to begin but the pine hops introduce themselves fairly soon after that. Medium body. A hesitant malt sweetness at first that gives way to the pine and fuller hop bitterness at the end.

Big Eye - Ballast Point - bitter, bold, cloudy, amber red color, nose was o.k. but not overwhelming, nicely balanced with 7 ABV..., not my favorite one.....

I tried an IPA years ago and found that I’m not a fan. My liquor store was offering samples of different Ballast point beers - The lager was mellow. But I bought a 6 pack of this. The flavors that come to mind are grapefruit and pineapple... I guess it’s hoppy along with that. I’m not a fan of citrus or hot peppers in my beer , but this is drinkable , compared to the last IPA? I’m going for my 2nd bottle , I might even explore other IPAs if I hear praise of a real good one?

@ Stordirren 15-8-15: en diskret doft men en fin fyllig smak utan att sticka ut på något sätt. En stabil välbalanserad öl.

This beer turned our heads around 360. Just like the girl spinning her head in the Exorcist. In other words, NOT what we are used to in an initial impression of an IPA. A great appearance, in a nice nasty head. Hat’s off to this very unique IPA. A true craft beer that the more you tasted, the more it slid down without filling you up like other IPA’s do.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Clear and copper in color, nice foamy off white head that left beautiful lacing all over the glass. Aroma of citrus fruit, hops and some malts. Taste is consistent, bitter and hoppy but with a nice malty backbone. Very bitter finish, however it is quite refreshing and easy to drink.

Bitter, hoppy grape fruit and pine character and a malty backbone. Not bad , but not that interesting either
