If you have fallen for the IPA style like we have, Big Eye will be a welcome addition to your repertoire. You’ll revel in Big Eye’s bitter, hoppy flavor thanks to the American Columbus and Centennial hops that are used to flavor and dry hop our flagship IPA. We thank our hops every day that the English loved their bitters—or else the IPA style may not have been born to help the beer survive the journey from Cape Hope to India back in the 18th century.

I’ve had many bottles of this-- 12 oz and 22 oz, and I just had a 22 oz with lunch today-- and I like this IPA. Considering that I can get it many places (I live in Southern CA), and that a 22 oz bottle is just $3.99 at the place where I usually go, and it’s usually in-stock (as opposed to Pliny, which is not easy to get whenever you want it), there is a lot to like about this IPA. The finish, which strikes me as a little bitter, lingers longer than I would prefer, but otherwise this is a very fine example of a well-done west coast IPA. I have to wonder if they could improve the beer by incorporating something other than Centennial hops, but this is one of my go-to IPAs.

Pours dark orange/Amber with a smallish white head. Aroma is pine and full on caramel/malt. Taste is malty upfront with grapefruit/citrus/pine and then a strong bitterness. I like the finish to it. Solid

On tap at Ballast Point Tasting Room. Pours a clear Amber with a thin white head. Floral pine and some citrus on the nose. Very hoppy. Finishes clean and dry. Very nice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Wow, I’ve never had one of these before and it’s very tasty. Big citrus hoppy smell that tastes nice and refreshing going down then a long and crisp but not overly bitterness. Yum

Excellent IPA with a dominant hop bitterness that manages to remain well kept in check by the body and creamy texture. Long finish.

Deep, lightly clouded, red-orange-brown. Reasonable amount of frothy tan head. Molasses, some roasted notes, pine, some resin. Quite bitter, slightly sweet. Chewy, medium body, oily, quite effervescent, quite acidic. Alcohol reasonably upfront. Good.

Pours amber color with a medium head. Aroma is pine and grapefruit. Malt and hops are beautifully balanced. Taste is citrusy sweet, malty and transforms into a nice, hoppy, longlasting bitter finish. Very good IPA!

12 oz can. Aroma: malty, resinous, and very piney. Taste/Palate: crisp and sweet throughout; finishes with a long bitterness. The malt backbone almost keeps up with the bittering hops in this one, but not quite. Nevertheless, a pretty fantastic beer!
