Draft @ Bishops Arms Gustav, Malmö. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty spicy chocolate and chipotle aroma. Roasted malty spicy chocolate and chipotle peppers flavor. Has a roasted malty spicy chili and chocolate finish with hints of caramel.

Tap at the brewery in Old Grove. Murky brown color, tan head. Aroma of mild chocolate, coffee grounds, pepper. Taste has LOTS of pepper which dominates the beer, could use a bit more malt offset, but the hop profile is nice.

Keg at the Ballast Point taproom - San Diego. Pours rich black-brown with a frothy tan head. Good chili kick in this one, balanced by dry, bittersweet baking cocoa. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Lingering semi-dark chocolate finish, chili punch, some burnt earth. Solid.

A: The beer pours a dark brown color with a finger of tan head.
S: Really quite smokey with lots of earthy tones, so the chipotle is really coming through. Plenty of roasted malt and only a mild dark chocolate/cocoa aroma to it. Not really much sweetness.
T: I was surprised how much spice this beer had to it. A big kick of heat from the chipotle peppers which also impart a big time earthiness and smokiness to the beer. Moderately roasty with a more pronounced chocolate quality to them.
M: Medium in body and carbonation.
O: The chile pepper is quite strong, but I thought it was pretty decent and it worked alright with the chocolate and porter base.

Tap at The Davis Beer Shoppe. Pours quite black with a creamy tan head. Aroma is slightly smoky. Med body. Flavor is smoky with chili burn. Mild dark malt. Some chocolate. Finishes sort of smoky, spicy, subdued baking chocolate. Strongly flavored. Good stuff.

A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, light sweet chocolate malt with light chalky character, light coffee, nice. In mouth, a nice bitter sweet chocolate with smooth peaty notes, faint pepper burn, dark fruits, plums interesting. On tap at Timothy O’toole’s.

Draft - Chocolate, chipotle and gap dark roast. Jet black with light head. Chocolate, chipotle and a bit of chilli heat on the back of the throat. Well done, likely the best chipotle beer I have had.

10oz snifter on tap at Neon’s, for $6. Very dark brown, near-black color. Thin light brown / khaki head. Good bits and short ropes of lace. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, crisp lighter carbonation. Kind of a chewy, bigger texture. Lightly dry finish. Good bigger roast, dark malts, hint of coffee, good dark chocolate aroma. Pepper is much more subtle and well-integrated than expected. Much more balanced than habanero sculpin, works great with the rich, dark malt flavors of Marlin. Moderate bitter taste, light sweet. Good light peppery heat creeps up on you in the finish, but it’s more of a warm hug on the palate than a peppery kick. Up front, the pepper backs off enough to let the dark chocolate and roast malt flavors shine. Definitely the best pepper porter I’ve had yet, much better than expected.

Dark brown color, brown head. Sweet, malty, grainy scent. Malty, grainy taste. Grainy aftertaste. Medium mouthfeel, medium bitterness.

Tap at Tony’s Darts Away in Burbank, CA. Pours a opaque deep cola with red highlights. Nose at first is all roasted jalapeño then gains some licorice and cherry. Savory and rich. Big impending heat in the nose. Taste at first is ridiculously thin for porter, more brown ale. Licorice and anise bite at the beginning gets obliterated by hefty jalapeño that is powerful and lingering without any saving hop balance. Harder to drink than Naga Chili Dorado DIPA.
