Snojerk321 (879), San Diego, California, USA Jan 31, 2008 On draft @ the Linda Vista brewery. Brew poured an almost pitch black with a beige head. Nose of wood chips, spice, coffee and chocolate. A clean finish. goldtwins (3672), Nesconset, New York, USA Dec 10, 2007 Tap @ Ballast Point. Cask. Poured with a large creamy tan head. The beer itself was black and fairly opaque. The aroma was of coffee and wood with mild vanilla notes. The flavor had a light roast and woody notes. The guy pouring said it was a whiskey barrel but I don’t really get and whiskey. Light bodied and smooth. brettpace (176), Northridge, California, USA May 1, 2007 Tasted from a growler at the Ballast point brewery. Beer was very good, and full flavored. Coffee, chocolate, but not as thick as a stout, one of the better porters. IrishBoy (2043), Bakersfield, California, USA Feb 12, 2007 Draft at the Bistro’s First Barrel-aged Beer Fest; Oak aged for 9 weeks; Nose of coffee and chocolate; clear brown, small beige head; flavor of coffee, oak, and caramel malt in a kind of thin body.I had put this under the regular but moved since I saw it was added! stoutlover72 (1313), NorCal, California, USA Dec 13, 2006 Pretty disappointed with this beer. I was looking forward to an oaked porter but...well. On to the review. A slightly oaky aroma with a roasty/dark chocolate character, and a bit of vanilla. Tastes somewhat sour with an earthy hook to keep things from falling apart. Finish is slightly bitter.
