Bomber. Roasted malt aroma with notes of coffee and nuts. Pours black with thin light brown head with good retention and lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt flavor and and a little bit of chocolate and coffee. Finishes smooth with nutty flavors to go along with the roast. Good porter for enjoying anytime.

This is a pretty straightforward porter with medium mouthfeel and a nice roasty taste. I get roasted nuts in the forefront followed by mocha and toffee. Just a trace of bitterness. Nice everyday porter.

[2/20/15] Draught at Ballast Point Old Grove in San Diego. Black with a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roast and some olives – seems a bit infected. Bittersweetish flavor with roast, dark chocolate, a bit of coffee, a light sourish note and a bitter finish. Medium-bodied.

Bottoe. Black, tan head. Roasty, dry chocolate, green hoppy, slight herby earthy, green citrus. Med bodied, nice bittered, malty roast. Finishes with chocolate, grassy herbs. Nice robust hoppy porter. Hasnt, got the super fruityness of a lot of black ipas, rather traditionally hopped porter. Pretty easy drink.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAR 13, 2015 Bottle. Clear dark brown with a lasting tan head. Malty aroma is chocolate cake and fudge with faint coffee and roast and even quieter plum / cherry esters. American aroma hop impression is pine resin and citrus and herbs. Medium body is rich and fluffy and cake-y, off-dry with moderate bitterness. Nicely savory and soft and full in the mouth. Black patent char shows up in a silky finish. Another solid beer from Ballast Point, the sweetness suits its size, malt is expressed well and the fermentation is clean.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
A very dry, dusty feel feel. Dark brown reddish color with a huge head.
The aroma is hazelnut, burnt cookies, mocha, and a hint of plum.
Flavor is first plum/raisin on the front of the tongue, then a dusty hazelnut presence.
The feel is dry, as expected. This is an outstanding porter, it has a bit of a slick sweetness, but balanced with a nutty dryness.

From the 650 ml. bottle. Pours jet black with a foamy mocha head that lingers. The aroma is subdued all around with a clean cocoa and roasted dark malt combo. light sweetness and light grassy and earthy hops, The body is medium to full. The taste is delightful with a sweet roasted malt beginning that leads to a crisp, slightly bitter finale. Finishes slightly dry.
