| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 10, 2009 22 oz bottle from BevMo. Deep brown pour with a moderate tan head. Roasty aroma with some light hops and a nutty note. Flavor is pretty much all chocolate and roast, with a too slick and watery mouthfeel for me. Still solid, but not quite what I was hoping for. blutt59 (2186), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 24, 2009 Bottle. Almost black with bubbly tan head. Complex aroma has everything from licorice to banana peel. Nice bitterness very well offset. Ever so slightly thin, with that slight soft drinky effervescent character of so many porters. I liked it Sparky27 (1642), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 23, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark reddish brown/almost black with a one finger tan head that results in spotty lacing. The nose is mild chocolate milk and light roast. The taste is cocoa, milk chocolate, burnt molasses and caramel with mild bitter coffee in the finish. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Not bad at all. GG (1687), NorCal, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 19, 2009 I found it strange that when I looked to see if I’ve reviewed Black Marlin before, I’ve rated the beer on oak, but not the non-oaked version. So during a visit with sister and her family, my brother-in-law brought out a bottle so I was down with a new beer I haven’t had!
The beer pours out a dark chocolate brown, nearly black color with some ruby red highlights around the edges. Aroma mostly consisted of roasted malts, dark chocolate, lightly floral hops and a spot of nuttyness. The flavor had lots of dry dark choclate flavor, with some roasted malts there as well. Not really complex, but tasty and easy to consume a pint or three. BiddleBrau (335), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 18, 2009 Dark with ruby highlights and dense long lasting head. Rich chocolate and coffee aroma. Flavor is rich and smooth, creamy. This is well balanced, tending on the maltier side rather than aggressively hopped. This porter does not have a roasted or burnt profile and it is very satisfying. My type of porter. Well done. Bomber bottle ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 17, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours out a brownish black color with a tan head on it. Looks pretty good, seems kind of thick based on appearance. Smell is roasted malts, some coffee, a hint of chocolate, and some nice grassy bitter smelling hops. Really good smell. Taste is kind of thin, not as thick as I was thinking it would be. Roasted taste, some coffee in it, nice little hop kick. Very easy to drink, needs a little more substance, but it is still good.
