COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A hoppy twist on the classic English Porter. Our Black Marlin Porter stands out in a town known primarily for its IPA’s. We craft it from a unique blend of roasted and crystallized malts that give it a smooth, chocolaty, caramel profile. Then toss in a healthy dose of American hops to serve up full-bodied flavor worthy of its San Diego roots.

22 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter. Exceptionally attractive dark ruby body with a rather weak but semi-durable head that leaves spotty lacing. Aroma: attractive and enticing, with hints of dark fruits and toffee. Flavor: bitterness builds to a choice mild-moderate level in the finish and aftertaste. Hops surely temper the sweetness but don’t otherwise contribute much to the taste until the lasting aftertaste. O: a well-crafted, relatively dry porter. Allowed to warm for about 15 minutes it nonetheless improved with further warming.

Aroma: toasted malts, coffee, maybe some dark chocolate. Appearance: dark, hazy brown, small, beige, frothy head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: sweets continue, toasted flavours, coffee, dry finish. Overall: nice Porter, well-balanced. Pint at Ballast Point Brewery, San Diego.

On tap at Ballast Point brewery. Pours black with firm tan head. Nose shows bitter coffee, cocoa, and a light hoppiness. Taste is much the same. Light coffee, roasted malts, cocoa and slight hoppiness. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

the roasted malty aroma was fantastic...reminded me of the better porters, as well as GD Hibernation, a favorite old ale. silky smooth mouthfeel, medium bodied, with a flavor that nearly matches the aroma. just excellent, and one of my new favorite porters."

Decent lil porter. Nothing really stands out and even though it's advertised that this is supposed to be a hoppier porter I really didn't see it as such. Not overwhelming but not underwhelming at the same time. Good lil English porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap @ Flying Pie: dark dark brown with red tints and a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate malt followed by a well balanced flavor of charcoal and choco-coffee malts. Great brew!

Faint aroma’s of vanilla, caramel, cocoa and carbonation. Appears black with a two finger foam that does not leave. Taste is dark cocoa, black malts, chocolate, dry coffee bean resin and dry black malts. Overall, very dry porter with some nice hop presence. Bitter carbonation and piney hops. Nice porter. B+ rating.

Pours burnt toast black with an active, tall, tan head. Smells like cookie, toast, chocolate dusted with spices. Mild flavor, coffee, a slight astringency on the finish. Plum, compost, hazelnut.

Not bad but I was expecting more. Faint roasted malt aroma., with a slight hoppiness. Standard dark brown or chocolate color. Palate was a little light and watery for my liking. Roasted and chocolate notes with a good hops balance. Just a little mild for my preference.
