COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A hoppy twist on the classic English Porter. Our Black Marlin Porter stands out in a town known primarily for its IPAís. We craft it from a unique blend of roasted and crystallized malts that give it a smooth, chocolaty, caramel profile. Then toss in a healthy dose of American hops to serve up full-bodied flavor worthy of its San Diego roots.

Pretty deep brown pour w/ a big tan head that leaves plenty of lacing. The aroma is subtle chocolate roast. The taste has a nice chocolaty sweetness up front & finishes a bit roasty & bitter in the end as a porter should. Itís a touch thin in body but otherwise a solid brew!

650ml bottle Pour is quite dark. Head dissolves rather fast, leaving behind a nice tan ring. Aromas of chocolate and faint coffee notes. First sip reveals more of same with carmel thrown in. Roast malt is dominant, but everpresent hops lends a hand. Not overwhelming. More of a go to staple.

Bottle, black body, big light tan head, great lace. Aroma is metal, toasted barley, some coffee and dark fruit. Taste is dark malt, metal, toasted barley, coffee, some dark fruit. Palate is just right for style, not heavy, but not watery either, creamy and smooth, carbonation slightly subdued. Finish is nicely dry. This is a proper Porter.

Bomber. Clear dark brown with a thick, foamy brown head that lasts and laces. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, caramel, dark chocolate, light vanilla and fig. Flavor is the same with some bitter pine. Medium boded, smooth with a dry, bitter end.

Ballast Point seems to be trying to force itís way into my list of favorite breweries. With beers as good as their Black Marlin porter, Iím fine with that. Black Marlin looks like most porters, deep chocolate brown with an average, tan head. The aroma is smooth, sweet, and rich. Coffee and chocolate combine here, just as they do any of my favorite porters. The flavor is smooth and rich through the finish, with a little hoppy tingle rather than the watery slip that often closes weaker porters. I like this very much, and I will have it again.
