COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter is a rich dark chocolaty Porter with a distinctive American hop character. It is nitrogen dispensed which gives it a creamy texture, thick head and a balanced flavor that is reminiscent of traditional British cask conditioned ales. It is a great beer to go with hearty foods and is surprisingly one of the few beers that goes well with dessert.

The aroma is dark malts, fruit and a hint of chocolate/coffee. The flavor is dark malts, fruit, a low amount of bitterness and a smooth finish.

Bottle. Very dark brown with a solid head. Wish the Rangers could score tonight, my playoff pool rests on this series. Nice malt scent with chocolate and a cushion you could sleep on. Tastes just like it smells. Chocolate nibs and touches of hops and dark malt solid and tasty but not long term top ten.

22oz bomber. this beer pours out dark brown with aromas of chocolate and hops...medium bodied beer that was quite smooth. the bitterness of the hops are hidden nicely under the chocolate undertones.

Clear deep brown beer. Semi soft palate. Rich malt, silky. Very light smoke. Finishes smooth and a little dry. Decent if slightly one dimensional.

Originally reviewed: 7/27/09. This beer pours a deep dark brownish black with just whisps of ruby on the edges. Big rocky tan head rests on top. Retention is average, but it leaves nice pretty lacing. Smells of roasted nuts and breads, coffee, and the faintest of cocoa beans. The mouth is somewhat creamy, but there is a bit of carbonation in this that makes it a touch bubbly. Flavor is very chocolate forward. Plenty of bitter roasted nuttiness mixed with the sweet chocolate makes this absolutely a treat to sip! Some wine characteristics are in there, but very subtley. This is a wonderful Porter from an excellent brewery. Everything I’ve had from here has been top notch, and this is no exception.

22 ounce bottle. Served in a nonic pint glass, the brew pours dark brown with an inch and a half frothy tan head. Head retention and lacing are both pretty good. Aroma is roasted malt, bittersweet and milk chocolate, nuts, and some coffee. Taste is similar to the aroma, it tastes like roasted and burnt/charred malt, chocolate, nuts, and a little bit of coffee. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s very smooth and easy to drink. I like this brew a lot, I’d definitely buy this again in the future. It’s a nice, easy drinking, tasty brew.

Wow! This is about perfect for me! Smooth as hell! I’ve tried a lot of porters and I can confidently say this is one of the best.

Great aroma of chocolate and vanilla. Slight citrusy note as well. Looks very similar to Coke with a head that sticks around. The flavor is roasty malts, chocolate mixed with a bit of hop pine. Nice sweet finish.

Pours almost black with a small tan head which lingers for a while. aroma is of roasted malts, coco, some nuttiness, burnt coffee, and some hop bitterness. Taste is of roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, coffee, nuts, and some hops. has a medium body with a sightly creamy but also watery mouthfeel with a bitter, semi dry finish. overall, a very drinable and pretty tasty porter.

Solid porter from a solid brewery. This one is chocolate through and through. Thick head, heavy body. A definite dessert. Tried this for the first time in Sept of ’08 and multiple times since.
