COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A hoppy twist on the classic English Porter. Our Black Marlin Porter stands out in a town known primarily for its IPAís. We craft it from a unique blend of roasted and crystallized malts that give it a smooth, chocolaty, caramel profile. Then toss in a healthy dose of American hops to serve up full-bodied flavor worthy of its San Diego roots.

Bottle, black body, big light tan head, great lace. Aroma is metal, toasted barley, some coffee and dark fruit. Taste is dark malt, metal, toasted barley, coffee, some dark fruit. Palate is just right for style, not heavy, but not watery either, creamy and smooth, carbonation slightly subdued. Finish is nicely dry. This is a proper Porter.

Draught at yard house. Deep brown with ruby highlights. Solid aroma of chocolate, coffee, pine, citrus. Taste is sweet, and a substantial bitterness. Mouthfeel is creamy, chewy, and finishes dry. Left salivating. Want more.

Ballast Point seems to be trying to force itís way into my list of favorite breweries. With beers as good as their Black Marlin porter, Iím fine with that. Black Marlin looks like most porters, deep chocolate brown with an average, tan head. The aroma is smooth, sweet, and rich. Coffee and chocolate combine here, just as they do any of my favorite porters. The flavor is smooth and rich through the finish, with a little hoppy tingle rather than the watery slip that often closes weaker porters. I like this very much, and I will have it again.

There arenít other porters that come to mind which have a chocolate- and coffee-inspired aroma also revealing hints of citrus. But there are lots of little differences that make Black Marlin an unusual yet very satisfying porter. Certainly among those differences is boosting the IBUs to an out-of-the-box 42. It creates a thinner but still acceptable roll around the tongue, and the finish is a combination of sweet and bitter. A really good bomber.

HIGHB4LL (792) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - APR 1, 2015
Bomber from Wilburís. Appearance: finger tan head, black, opaque, good lacing. Aroma: roast, light chocolate, molasses. Palate: full body, soft carbonation, velvety texture, moderate bitter finish. Taste: sweet molasses with notes of roast, into chocolate, with a pronounced bitter finish of dark chocolate. Overall, very nice, super smooth, very strong in its flavors and not overly complex.

Bomber. Roasted malt aroma with notes of coffee and nuts. Pours black with thin light brown head with good retention and lacing. Starts with rich roasted malt flavor and and a little bit of chocolate and coffee. Finishes smooth with nutty flavors to go along with the roast. Good porter for enjoying anytime.
