A hoppy twist on the classic English Porter. Our Black Marlin Porter stands out in a town known primarily for its IPA’s. We craft it from a unique blend of roasted and crystallized malts that give it a smooth, chocolaty, caramel profile. Then toss in a healthy dose of American hops to serve up full-bodied flavor worthy of its San Diego roots.

Bottle. Clear dark brown with a lasting tan head. Malty aroma is chocolate cake and fudge with faint coffee and roast and even quieter plum / cherry esters. American aroma hop impression is pine resin and citrus and herbs. Medium body is rich and fluffy and cake-y, off-dry with moderate bitterness. Nicely savory and soft and full in the mouth. Black patent char shows up in a silky finish. Another solid beer from Ballast Point, the sweetness suits its size, malt is expressed well and the fermentation is clean.

A very dry, dusty feel feel. Dark brown reddish color with a huge head. The aroma is hazelnut, burnt cookies, mocha, and a hint of plum. Flavor is first plum/raisin on the front of the tongue, then a dusty hazelnut presence. The feel is dry, as expected. This is an outstanding porter, it has a bit of a slick sweetness, but balanced with a nutty dryness.

From the 650 ml. bottle. Pours jet black with a foamy mocha head that lingers. The aroma is subdued all around with a clean cocoa and roasted dark malt combo. light sweetness and light grassy and earthy hops, The body is medium to full. The taste is delightful with a sweet roasted malt beginning that leads to a crisp, slightly bitter finale. Finishes slightly dry.

Rated on 4-30-2013 (Bottle) This beer pours a small smooth tan head that mostly diminishes, brown body with a red tint, very little carbonation, and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is roasted, coffee, chocolate, caramel, and malt. The flavor is lightly bitter, roasted, coffee, chocolate, and malt. The mouthfeel is somewhat watery and thin. This beer is light bodied. A quaffable beer that has an enjoyable flavor and worth trying.

Pours ruby brown with a small brown head. Smells roasted and chocolaty. Taste is roast and chocolate. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Ballast Point Black Marlin Porter finishes with a lingering soft bittersweetness.

Aroma gives little hint of the full-on flavour to follow. Brilliantly full bodied and balanced combination of coffee, chocolate, and licorice - what’s not to like?

22oz bottle pours brown black in glass with a finger of offwhite head. Nose is nutty roast cream with some coffee bean, soil, and light grass. Taste is medium bodied, grassy grapefrui with mild bitterness, soft roasty cocoa ash, coffee bean, hints of cream and almond. Finish is medium bitter, cocoa, milk chocolate, some orange, light grassy citrus. Really a black APA. Good stuff.
