COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A hoppy twist on the classic English Porter. Our Black Marlin Porter stands out in a town known primarily for its IPA’s. We craft it from a unique blend of roasted and crystallized malts that give it a smooth, chocolaty, caramel profile. Then toss in a healthy dose of American hops to serve up full-bodied flavor worthy of its San Diego roots.

Bottle shared @ home with Philippe from Saveur-Biere.com - Color: dark opaque black beer with no carbonation and small brown head. Smell: nice coffee nose with roasted malt and black chocolate presence. Notes of black bread and some hazelnuts presence. Taste: nice body on mouth with good aroma of malt and sweet roasted bread. Notes of coffee and finish of black chocolate. Really nice ! Aftertaste: nice chocolate notes with coffee and ni bitterness! Really nice beer!

Bomber pours coffee-black with a thin tan head. Not much on the nose, but lots on the palate: Coffee, black licorice, bitter chocolate. The high hop profile in this porter really gives it a nice roasted malt/bitter finish. Overall, an excellent American-style porter.

Aromas of dark fruits, dark chocolate, toffee and roasted coffee. The taste is as the smell suggests, with a moderate bitter and charred finish. Medium bodied and smooth.

On tap at Ballast Point Tasting Room. Pours very dark brown. Thin tan head. Aroma is slight roast. Very hoppy. More of an India brown than a porter. But good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft pour at special brews. Pours black with a creamy tan head. Aroma is almost sour, with a bit of chocolate. Love the roasted malt flavor. A bit sweet up front, but finishes on the smokey side. Really good porter here. Enjoyed this a lot.

Dudes at Ballast Point! Fresh aromas: caramel, floral, light citrus, dough, maybe some woody vanilla. Taste is very well balanced. Starts out bitter then sour, sweet, umami.

22 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter. Exceptionally attractive dark ruby body with a rather weak but semi-durable head that leaves spotty lacing. Aroma: attractive and enticing, with hints of dark fruits and toffee. Flavor: bitterness builds to a choice mild-moderate level in the finish and aftertaste. Hops surely temper the sweetness but don’t otherwise contribute much to the taste until the lasting aftertaste. O: a well-crafted, relatively dry porter. Allowed to warm for about 15 minutes it nonetheless improved with further warming.
