COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A hoppy twist on the classic English Porter. Our Black Marlin Porter stands out in a town known primarily for its IPA’s. We craft it from a unique blend of roasted and crystallized malts that give it a smooth, chocolaty, caramel profile. Then toss in a healthy dose of American hops to serve up full-bodied flavor worthy of its San Diego roots.

Tap @ PP Carlsbad. Black pour with a slick of tan foam and heavy lacing. Aroma is light bourbon and oak (more so than the bourbon), roast, chocolate, and slight bitterness. Taste is light bourbon up front with some alcohol spice, roasted chocolate and malt, and spicy oak through the finish. Light, mostly clean mouthfeel although the barrel character lingers. Nice barrel aged treatment if a low ABV beer but by way of comparison markedly less impact in both aroma and taste as compared to BA Nut Brown from Ale Smith.

This one poured a medium brown color with a beiege head. Aroma was chocolate, tequila, light roast and some earthy notes. Flavor was earthy and liquor like, some vegetal and stale coffee, but velvety smoooth at the same time. Interesting.

Tap. Pours opaque brown with a small tan head and some lacing. Aroma is bourbon, cocoa powder, and dark roasted malt with a light coffee note. Flavor is the same, quite smooth with light sweetness and no real bitterness other than a very light coffee aftertaste. Medium body and a warming finish that was a bit surprising for the relatively low ABV.

Growler from the brewery. Thanks Drew! Sweet, fruity, smoky, boozy nose. Flavors of chocolate, licorice, booze, dark fruits. Sweet w/ slight spice. Super creamy & vanilla notes. Very easy to drink. A real treat!

Tap. Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma is of roasted malt, subtle barrel character of oak, vanilla and bourbon, some coffee and chocolate. The flavor follows the nose with subtle barrel notes of oak, vanilla and bourbon, some roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. The body is medium with a creamy mouth feel. Overall a pretty tasty BA Porter, but not the biggest amount of barrel character is present.

Draught at TND: Aroma of Bourbon, vanilla, malt, alcohol, lactose, a hint of funk, and some roasting. Poured very dark brown in color with a small to medium-sized, creamy, dense, brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of Bourbon, vanilla, oak, and a hint of chocolate. Medium body. Slick, creamy, texture. Soft carbonation. Medium sweet, vanilla, Bourbon, oak, finish is slightly dry.
