hand bottle from growler. thanks to cbkschubert through trade with drmatt. aroma is musty oak and smoke with roasted malt and choco hidden behind. taste is a slightly sour oak, roast and bittersweet cocoa with slight toffee sweet behind. finish is bourbon dry with some smoky roast behind. its quite nice the whiskey is in balance and not overpowering as in other examples.

Nov 28, 2008 Tap at the tasting room. Very dark black beer with a thin tan head. Aroma is pretty solid. Cocoa and chocolate with a soft vanilla/bourbon character in the nose. A light oaky sweetness that accentuates the cocoa and roast of the base beer. Even a soft fruitiness that works pretty well in here. Earthy with a noticable hoppiness. Nice brew.

Nov 17, 2008 Tap at the brewery. Jet black pour, dark brown head. Very nice sweet aroma, slight bourbon notes, vanilla,coffee. Vanilla and slight bourbon flavor, very smooth going down. Primo stuff.

Jun 28, 2008 From the Growler and shared with Padrefan and toncatcher. Nice wooden oak aromas with some metallic dustiness. Flavors were vanilla sweetness with hints of bourbon and more wood. Decent dusty porter flavor as well. Pretty tasty stuff.<br />Earlier Rating: 1/17/2008 Total Score: 4<br />Draft at O’Brien’s. Darkest pour with decent head. Lots of wood and chocolate and coffee aromas. Flavors were more wood, a bit of tart, and some more roasted maltiness. Coffee and chocolate still came through. I really liked this one.
