Draft. Pours amber with an off white head. Light pepper, some malty sweetness, relatively mild heat, and a dry finish with just a bit of bitterness. Pretty good.

UPDATED: FEB 14, 2015 Quite agressive with the peppers in this one - theyíre all up in your face on the nose, flavor, a little heat down the throat. But, if you like peppers, this beer is good. Canít say itís better than the well above average for the style calico, but definitely a unique welcome addition."

I love guajillo so I had to try this. Tap Takeover for SF beer week at Original Gravity. Pours a darker amber color. First thing I noticed was the smell of the smoky, roasted, earthy guajillo peppers. Tasting revealed a mild (both in flavor and spice) that made this an interesting drink. Too spicy to be refreshing. Earthy and vegetal,

On tap at the Old Grove Location. Pours with a clear copper hued body with a small tan head. Aromas are earthy, green and vegital with further notes of caramel and black pepper spice. Flavors are vegital, peppery, caramel, pencil shavings. Medium esters. Flavors are dominated by dried peppers. Lively bubbles, medium bodied.

On tap at Home Brew Mart location: Aroma is mild and doesnít smell any different than the original calico but does have a fresher scent of hops and thatís probably due to it being fresh from the draught. The flavor is bitter and somehow blander than I remember a regular bottle of calico but there is a nice malty balance while a minimal amount of the guajillio comes through.

Sample in the tasting room...itís a funky slightly peppered amber...itís more roasted than spicy, light body refreshing. Still has the malt and slight roast from the regular amber and itís augmented heavily by the roasted pepper flavor. Itís weird, very interested, and pretty tasty.

(Draught) Pours an amber-brown body with a medium off-white head. Aroma of peppers, vegetal, and caramel. Flavor of caramel, earth, and chile peppers.

Draft at OBriens. Amber pour with a slight haze and off white head. Meaty peppers, vegtable, a bit of sweetness, and some bready malt. This addition certainly makes the beer more interesting. Reminiscent of a meat and bean chili. Not so hot.

Love the smokiness and slight heat that the peppers lent this otherwise middle of the road ale.

On tap at the Old Grove location. Golden pale pour with small white head. Nose is a bowl of freshly picked earthy jalapeŮos. Iíd say guajillos, but Iíve never smelled a fresh bowl of those. The anticipation is one spicy brew. Yep. Taste is exactly the same. Spicy and sharp. Earthy and clean with a lot of pepper bite. Wahoo with Thai chili and lime was not overpowering. This is.
