A rich, copper ale with a case full of gold medals. Our Calico Amber Ale takes its inspiration from traditional English ESBs. Four types of malts give it a bold complexity, and our proprietary yeast strain lends it a fruity, madeira-like richness. However, it’s the American hops that give this ale a distinct bite and floral aroma that have earned it just about every major beer medal.

This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a semi - dark red color with a slight transparency about it allowing a light carbonation to be seen rising. A one finger white foamy head dissipated within about a minute leaving some messy lacing roaming all about. The smell had a slight sweet caramel roasted nutty glossed over maltiness about it. The taste was basically the same as the aroma leaving a nice thick caramel malty aftertaste. A dry sweet finish ends off the taste. On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation seemed good for the style and for me. It was mostly smooth. Overall, I say this was a pretty good American Amber / Red ale.

Deep red amber. Nose of sticky toasted malt and caramel with citrus hops. Flavor follows with tart toasted malt and citrus and mild grapfruit. Lingering citrus and malt.

Draft pour at Bottleworks. Pours a super dark copper color with a creamy head. Faint malts aroma. Flavor is pretty bitter throughout. Bready flavor as well. Really bitter finish. Very impressed with ballast point. Not so much with this beer. Plain and average.

Perfect blend of sweet malt and gentle hops. Nice copper color with small beige head, malty, biscuit aroma, taste comes on with a hint of bitter hops. Bitterness lingers on the palate, along with some nutty and sweet flavors.

12 oz bottle. CA440. From saveur-biere.com.
Slightly cloudy reddish amber colour with a small off-white head. Sweet caramel malt, sweet piney hops, mild bitterness and some mild dessert wine sweetness in the aroma. American Amber Ale as its best (and worst). The flavour is pretty much the same. Sweetness, hops and malt. I’m so narrow-minded that I can’t enjoy these sweet American Amber Ales...

Bottle. Reddish copper. Sweet malty, syrupy raisinous caramel nose, pines all over. Smooth nice med bodied, with a clean red caramel pine finish. Pines, wooden flavours, herbs. A very clean nice drinkable red ale. Well bittered, caramelly. Easy to drink.

Klares bernsteinfarbenes Bier mit einer ordentlichen beigen Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr hopfig, fruchtig, Aprikosen, kräftig malzig. Geschmack sehr malzig, reife Früchte, ordentlich gehopft, Aprikosen.

12 oz bottle picked up in a variety pack, date code 14305. Clear amber pour with an off-white head that has excellent retention and lacing on the glass. Good malt backbone with unfortunately some oxidation apparent. Some caramel sweetness is starting to come through. No real off-flavors to speak of, so I’d like to try it again fresher at some point. Still very drinkable.
