COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, copper ale with a case full of gold medals. Our Calico Amber Ale takes its inspiration from traditional English ESBs. Four types of malts give it a bold complexity, and our proprietary yeast strain lends it a fruity, madeira-like richness. However, it’s the American hops that give this ale a distinct bite and floral aroma that have earned it just about every major beer medal.

This sort of splits the difference between an APA and an English pale. It has a good depth of malt character with some nice toasty and nutty notes. The hop character is nice too--piney and a bit herbal and earthy--but I feel it distracts from the malts or maybe vice versa. It is not a bad beer but it seems to compete against itself.

Smell is funky stale red ale malt. I should probably try it again not at Stanley’s farmhouse where the beers all taste like jester king funk.

12 oz bottle poured a deep reddish bronze. Some fruity aromas. This tastes very bold and rich. A little sweet, a little fruity, bitter finish.

Pours a clear deep copper color with a pillowy light tan head. Toasty, caramelly aromas. Creamy mouthfeel. Citrus rind and grassy bitterness dominates the sweet toasty malt, caramel, and fruit flavors.

Poured from bomber into a dimpled mug, the color is amber with a nice head and lacing, the aroma is strongly malt with some molasses, taste of citrus, malt and some lingering bitter, mild goes down easy

Picked this single bottle up in error, was going for Sculpin! Anyways, it pours a nice deep amber orange with a 1 1/2 finger off white head. Aroma is interesting. Its bready, its malty, its sweet smelling. Malt and hops on the nose. There is definitely a floral sense followed and mixed with hints of grassy with a tinge of lemon borderline orange citrus. Some vinous notes which is really interesting, maybe almost borderline on raisin. Very malty nose, but well complemented by the hops. Nice carbonation up front, sweet and malty flavors, some of that raisin and bready caramel coming up front, quickly followed by some nice hop bitterness. Some citrus and maybe a hint of pine bitterness. Finishing with caramel and raisin quality to it. Nice and balanced. The bitterness lingers in the finish right across the middle of the palate. Body is tremendous for being a 5.5% ABV beer. Very tasty for an ESB inspired ale. I liked the American Hops on the English Malts.
