COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, copper ale with a case full of gold medals. Our Calico Amber Ale takes its inspiration from traditional English ESBs. Four types of malts give it a bold complexity, and our proprietary yeast strain lends it a fruity, madeira-like richness. However, it’s the American hops that give this ale a distinct bite and floral aroma that have earned it just about every major beer medal.

Just came across this here on base in the UK. I may be slighted in my opinion but it is nice to have a taste of home right now. Great amber color, big hop aroma and a sweet, malty finish. Big on the biscuit flavors and fruity all around. So glad to have some in my house right now!

Gorgeous lustrous coppery colour with a carpet of cream coloured head and lots of sparkle. Aromas of stonefruit - nectarines and peaches as well as pine-resin. The body is medium to full and is enhanced by dessert flavours and punchy bitterness. The bitterness sees a lengthy finish that rewards.

12oz bottle. Pours dark red/amber with a foamy beige head. Aroma is of hops, grass, caramel, and malt. Some citrus in there as well. Taste is of grassy hops and citrus. It is balanced out by a bready malt backbone. Lingering grassy taste. Has an underlying fruit taste that comes through more as it warms. Mouthfeel is medium, and slightly creamy. Body is medium, and heavily carbonated. Drinks very easy. Really good.

This is an amber beer that has a nice taste and is well balanced overall. Its not too hopppy or too malty. Good mix.

355ml bottle. Minimally cloudy, wonderful red amber colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Fruity, hoppy aroma has notes of dark berries, cherries, hints of juniper berry spiciness, a touch of artificial, sugary fruitiness. Taste is moderately sweet caramel malty, hints of toffee, a good amount of hop bitterness, hints of artificial jelly baby cherry aroma. Ballast Point delivers regularly beers with an almost unique intensity of flavours, leaving me behind with a remainder of scepticism, as sometimes has been the case after dining at a star awarded restaurant, asking myself if this intensity of flavours is achievable using exclusively, albeit the best, natural ingredients. Howsoever, too flattering sweet in this case anyway.

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, dark reddish pour with white head, aroma brought notes of caramel, bread, dough, some spice into a bit of red fruits some slight yeast. Taste was a pretty typical amber, some red fruits, caramel, toffee, slight toast into a bit of spice, yeast, finishing fairly dry, slightly sweet.

12oz bottle. No code date. Appearance: Deep amber red and clear, with a khaki head. Aroma: caramel, toasty malt hits the nose, with some floral and herbal hop notes. Taste: Caramel and toffee maltiness dominate, with a crisp, balancing bitterness. Hints of floral hops, but maltiness dominates with some vinous qualities. Mouthfeel: Medium body with a sharp carbonation. Finish: Floral hop bitterness perfectly balances the rich caramel maltiness. Very dry. Overall: A really nice drinking English pale/American Amber hybrid.

Look: pours a dark Amber. Off white head. Very clear. Smell: very heavy tropical fruit. Pineapple. Mango. Passion fruit. Bubble gum. Taste: bubble gum. Passion fruit. Pineapple. Feel: dry up front. Hop forward. Leaves a thick film in the mouth. Overall: ok beer. Looking for more citrus than tropical fruit. But still a good beer. First drank: home 4/13/15 Vintage:

This pours a deep amber color with a slight foamy head. The aroma is strong with sweet malts. The taste is simple, malty, and very easy drinking.

Like an ESB, but a little smoother and more palatable. Enjoyable, but not my fave from this (great) brewery.

This beer pours a clear amber color with a lot of streaming bubbles and a medium two-finger off white head that had great retention and left a good amount of lacing around the glass. The aroma is dark fruits, raisins, some mild spices, and earthy hops. The taste is similar to the aroma. The mouth feel is on the light to medium side.
