COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, copper ale with a case full of gold medals. Our Calico Amber Ale takes its inspiration from traditional English ESBs. Four types of malts give it a bold complexity, and our proprietary yeast strain lends it a fruity, madeira-like richness. However, it’s the American hops that give this ale a distinct bite and floral aroma that have earned it just about every major beer medal.

Aroma is primarly floral and citrusy. A dark reddish amber pour with a mostly lasting tan head and loads of sticky lacing. The taste is hoppy (piney - citrusy) up front with malts playing second fiddle. Medium body and medium carbonation. Overall, ok, but too hops forward for my taste. Having said that, this would extremely pleasing on a HOT Texas afternoon.

Bottle. Sugar cookie and fruitcake maltiness, somewhat toasty, more fruity-estery with notes of apple bake and sweet cherry. Peppery, cedar-like wood oil hop note with resin touches. Light body, semi-sweet with relatively strong bitterness. Starchy and husky in the mouth with a copper penny metal note in a bittersweet, watery finish.

Aroma: heavy grain malts, some floral hops, spruce. Appearance: hazy amber, small, frothy, beige head. Taste: light bitter. Palate: bitters intensify, quite hoppy, lively carbonation, malty sweets coming up, getting dry in the finish. Overall: nice Amber Ale, nice hoppy flavors. Pint at Ballast Point Brewery, San Diego.

Smak och doft av humle, malt, karamell, smörkola, citrus, grapefrukt . Lagom sötma, fruktig, beska med smak av grapefrukt och toner av tall.

Pours a darker amber, with a decent white head. Toffee aroma with some hops. Not so much malt in this one, bitter hops seem to take over. A good tasting beer.

Rated from notes taken 6 Aug 2011 -- Very much enjoy this Amber. More flavor than a bunch of "crowd pleaser" Ambers. One of my favorites.

"I can see the high ranking for this amber. The maltiness is very pleasant, with just enough hops so it’s not overly sweet. Well done in-style........"

From notes. Tasted on 6/30/12 at the 1st Annual Chimipalooza, from bottle. Pours clear amber with a thick tan head that leaves thick lace. The nose is some caramel with a touch of resin citrus peel hops. The flavor is a bit more intense than I expected with the same notes from the nose. The body is medium with average carbonation and a medium bitter hops finish.
