4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
650 ml bottle from local liquor store. Pours a rich reddish-copper color with a big sudsy off-white head that lasts forever and leaves plenty of lacing. The aroma is moderate in strength with caramel and malts. The flavor is rich with malts, set prominently in a biter hops backdrop. Other flavors I detect are citrus, pine, toffee and walnuts. The mouthfeel is full and creamy with lively carbonation. The finish is long, dry and biter. Overall: This is the best example of the style "Premium Biter" I have tried to date. Recommended.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
The ESB influence is very obvious in the taste. Dark copper color and roasted malt and alcohol aroma. Taste is roasted malt and dry hops bitterness with that ESB twist. This isnít my favorite style, and the ESB twist doesnít do much for me. This is well done, no doubt, just not for me. 12 oz bottle from Archer Liquors in Chicago.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tap at CBM Awajicho. Dark amber colour, golden head. Aroma is lightly spicy, bit of funk, light cat pee, citrus, nice and hoppy. Taste is great, somewhere between a brown ale spiciness and citrusy ipa. Bit of sour cream and chive, grapefruit. Really nice.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Maybe the best amber ale that I have had; maybe a jib above Full Sail. Nice complex but smooth taste with a little bite.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
At this point Ballast Point puts out quality brews. Even when their brews have a low ABV they are still quite tasty! Red blonde hue. Thin head. You can taste the hops, but not overbearing. Typically amber ales have a dry aftertaste which I donít care for but this one is real easy. It is a smooth summer brew. Not too bad. A no frills brew. Simple but kind.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Not seeing this as much of an amber but tasty all the same. Has a ipa nose with lots of citrus and some resin. More hop than malt , which is fine with me.
Solid session brew

3.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Great copper color nice carbonation with a genuine balance of hops and malts on the front. Bread, dough on the nose. I liked just about every component of the Calico with the exception of the finish which imparts a very strong bitterness but hey its an ESB so what do you expect. Its not my favorite from Ballast Point (Sculpin or Big Eye) but its a good alternative to a typical ESB. 2013

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours nice amber color with slight head. Not much lacing. Citrus smell, kind of weird for an amber. Smells like an IPA. Medium body with a pretty strong after taste. Not great but not bad.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz bottle pours an almost clear brownish copper color with nice off-white head and some lacing. Aroma has lots of bready and roasted malts plus some floral hops. Taste is slightly sweet with some hoppy bitterness in the middle before a bready/malty aftertaste kicks in. Body is light to medium with average cabonation and a slightly sticky mouthfeel. A very good amber ale, far from boring.

Draft at íOn Tapí in Columbus Circle Whole Foods. Dark smooth brown. Pretty, proper ale. Mild amber roast malts, good fruity hop backbone. Smooth and refined. Only slightest íamberí sour in back, great hops. Nice ale.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep brown copper with nice had and great lacing. Aroma is sweet with a mix of bready caramel malts and floral hops. Taste is sweet bread malts, into a medium bitter middle, then a nice bready aftertaste with some residual sweetness and underlying bitterness. Balanced and tasty. An ideal West Coast session ale.
